well, it was bound to happen.

i was goin down the left lane of conn ave last night behind one of those minivan/taxis. he broke hard, so i swerved into the center strip (about six feet between two sets of double yellow lines where nobody's sposed to be) and he flipped an illegal u-turn hard as i was going by. he hit me, threw me into the oncoming lane, thank god there wasn't anybody coming. i got off easy with a bone bruise and a few scratches (i'd attach pics but it just doesn't look that cool). got taken to the emergency room, spent six hours getting an xray (negative) and a bottle of motrin.

so no pillage tonight, no race sat. luckily i don't think i'll be out too long, it still hurts, but much better than it was at first. be careful out there.

Dude!! Hope you recover soon. I work at Conn and N, drivers on Connecticut go absolutely ********. I see those dumb-ass U turns all the time.

On a lighter note the Silverdocs independent film festival is showing the documentary B.I.K.E at the AFI theater in Silver Spring on Saturday June 17. The documentary is about the Black Label bicycle gang in new york. Nathan and I plan on riding the tall bikes up there and I suggest that anyone else that is inclined to build one, get off their a** and do it before then, so we can all ride up together... Its a tall bike pillage and anyone on a regular ride will just look silly. I'll be working in the shop putting another one together on Saturday if anyone wants to take me up on my offer. I have a grill, and a fridge with lots of room for beer, so bring it on!

Dude, I'm glad you're okay, that didn't sound like a soft landing at all. Illegal moves like that are really unforgivable in the summer now that there are cyclists on the road all the time.

same thing happened to me. identical. Got clipped while riding the yellow line by a senseless u-turn. Normally I ride the white dotted lines, but I thought I was safe out in the great wide open because the lights were in my favor, there was nowhere for any of the cars to make a left into, and there was no oncoming traffic. I was approaching clavert (to make a left onto it) coming south on CT avenue.

anyway, a guy pulled out from the stopped traffic in the turn lane to do a three point turn (on CT ave, mind you)... I was hauling and it was pouring rain. My wheel was crushed and i was thrown pretty damn far. Walked away, and the guy bought me a new wheel.

thanks all. i'm gonna be good. one of the people at the scene offered to lock the bike up for me so i'm about to go grab it, but it seemed okay. it was the white fuji.
