Valley Forge ride sounds fun. Routes?

did you see the one on the philly craigslist?

ryand 02-23-07 01:40 PM

the mark v?

Kelly Drive to Ridge Ave. Ridge ave to Main St ("Welcome to Manayunk"). Main st to Leverington (rt on Lev.). Left onto Umbria. Umbria curves right and becomes Minerva. At the bottom of the hill make a sharp left onto Shawmont Ave. Shawmont Ave "Ts" at Nixon St. Right onto Nixon and it becomes River Road. Watch on River Rd for the bike path signs, you'll be making a right up a hill and the bike path starts on your left at the top. It's a straight shot to VF from there.

Hocam 03-06-07 12:02 PM

I might do that race too, it's 8 ****ing am??

ryand 03-06-07 12:19 PM

Its a road race, Max is on the Temple University team.

Kilgore_Trout 03-06-07 06:20 PM

hey. because i might be doing some alleycats in philly, i'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good map. the one i have for boston is "american map - metro boston - pocket atlas". it's small and spiral bound with an index of streets in the back (not like that helps for boston), so i'm looking for something similar for philly.
also, is philly at all a grided city or is at as as*backwards as boston is?
thanks.

ryand 03-06-07 07:16 PM

**** yeah gridded streets. i think they make the same map you have of boston for philly. not sure though.

philly is pretty easy to navigate once you learn the streets that run east/west.

jeac 03-06-07 08:48 PM

whats up with this newly formed Temple University bike team

Jserse 03-07-07 08:12 AM

I wanted to join that team, just didn't have the money to rock a rode bike at the time. Maybe next year. If i can keep up with sprint teams in spandex suits and geared bike all the way to valley forge in back on a fixed with a huge bag, i think I'll be fine
