There is a really good Vegan place at 2606 Georgia Ave. NW - Washington, DC 20001 called Soul Vegetarian. Very good food.

I agree that Soul is amazing, but what does that have to do with the fixed gear scene?

fixed scene here is like anyother i guess. all different kids of people ride them. commuters, roadies'a'training, messengers, people who masturbate thinking about messengers, and punks, and art school kids, much older people who just love cycling, i mean... whats a fixed scene sopposed to be?
i think you are talking about "bike nerd/jock" scene. if so check out dc fixed and play polo

There are actually a crap ton of riders around, and for the most part it's easy to fit in. There isn't really so much of a "scene" per se. A bunch of us meet regularly for lunch and pillages in the evening. Polo is wicked fun, but I wouldn't call us jocks.
For the most part it isn't as pretentious as I've seen in other cities. There are just a bunch of regular people who like bikes.

awesome! I love soul veg! we have one here where I live and the tofu is amazing.
I just wanted to see what your replies were to the question to get a better idea of what is going up there. I'm considering moving there in the fall but I needed to make sure there were people to chill and ride with around town.
I bet it's fun riding around the city. I love going up to NYC and riding around. Riding in a real city is so fun.
A bunch of the bike kids around here played bike polo a lot but unfortunately it's always when I'm busy.. but i'd be interested in getting into it when I head up there in the fall.

my post kind of made it sound like dcfixed was "the scene." but that was unintentional, there are lots of kinds of riders and any individual one probably falls into more than one pigeon hole.

Also, if you can find it. Twin Oaks Tofu is the best Tofu in the world. However, it may be difficult to get in DC. If you are in Richmond you can get it at Ellwood Thomson.

there you go, hiding behind a smokescreen of bourgeois cliches. travel around and you'll see that the fixed scenes (or atmospheres, whatever you would like to call them) of cities are quite different.
