BostonFixed?
i was just thinking the other day
l.a., s.f., n.y.c., and chicago all have their own fixed forums. why not boston?
does anyone have the technical know-how (or interest in doing it) to create a forum? would people even join and post if such a thing existed? i mean, the boston rides thread is about 100 pages long, so it seems to make sense to me - there's a lot of activity there, but multiple discussions get jumbled up in one thread...
so what do people think?

If I come back to Boston rather than moving somewhere else, I have the technical know how and server space to set up a forum.
that is, if there is a desire for one.

i'm a full supporter of this idea. though i'm not very good with the business of the interwebs, but if anyone on here is, definitely hook it up.

I think it will just divide things and there well be BFSSFG people and BostonFixed people which means lower turnout at rides....

i don't think it would necessarily mean a lower turnout at rides... i'd be shocked if people who regularly post here didn't take the time to register for the other site.
the single boston thread just gets congested with too many discussions - it's confusing!

I support the idea, and may be able to donate some time and hardware to the cause. Especially hardware (though older stuff), I'm kinda short on time right now.

i'd love to see a forum with pertinent info like this one, but without this layout. something more like bco would be great.

check out vanilla, it is what the other cities use, looks a little more modern than the last incarnation of phpbb i have seen. Though a lot of hosts seem to have phpbb as a button click to enable.
I'd be willing to donate some time to the process if need be.
A few questions we should get out of the way...
1) what should we name it? I wanted www.fixboston.com but it was taken... damn
2) anyone want to step up and moderate? (for spam and for scott)
edit: I'd do it. I spend enough time on this damn website anyways.

fixedboston.com and bostonfix.com both seem free. bfg.com would be sweet, but BFGoodrich already has it
edit: bostonfixed.net or fixboston.net?
could we register as a non-profit and get a .org?
edit2: .xxx? did that domain ever get officially created? that would be sweet.

will this be exclusive? like, will people have to (i dont want to say 'apply' or 'wait'), but will only people serious about riding/boston be able to post?
i'm assuming this will kinda take the form of fixed.gr/nyc maybe (?)

Ok, www.bostonfixed.com is up and running.
Vanilla is, in fact, pretty sweet. I haven't configured a damn thing, except to turn whispers on.
I am an egalitarian sort of fellow, but i'm going to leave the "admin approval" thing on for a little while to make sure: a) I didn't screw it up and b) nothing weird happens with my colo box (it is an old sparc netra, should be entirely suitable for a pretty big forum, but lets not find out the hard way).
I'm going to hold the keys to the colobox kingdom, but if any of the regulars here, whose names I will recognize, want to participate in the administration, you're all more than welcome.
So, create an account and go nuts. Since I've only spent like 15 minutes setting this up, consider this the burning in period. If it all blows up once or twice, you've been warned. Expect that I will be playing with the add-ons/themes until I find something sleeker than stock. Volunteers and suggestions welcome!
Anyhow, should be fun. =)
