Philly/S. Jersey dudes and dudettes
I would have posted this under the normal Philly thread but I think it might get more exposure this way.
My friend and I are creating a team for the MS ride in Sept..
https://www.nationalmssociety.org/sit...=2750&pg=entry
Monday will be the day we officially create the team and we are looking for all the help we can get.
We're going to be realistic about this and allot $250 per person for donation. ie; 4 people on the team means we set our goal to $1000...if we go under so be it, over GREAT! The bare minimum for a team is $250. Teams are supposed to have a corporation behind them. OBVIOUSLY we will not, so if any of you have a small business that wants to get behind this let me know. I will probably get Tshirts made if your biz wants to sponsor us!
I know this is short notice, but check your schedules and let me know ASAP. You can alway sign up afterwards with us, anyway.
Oh yea...we need a name too!
Thanks for reading!
...and no I don't feel lame for doing this. I look forward to standing out and having a good time at this event.

A bunch of us already have a team for the MS Ride. We have been doing it for a few years. Its mostly single speed and fixed gear and the name is "Team Schmeam" I was actually going to post something about it this weekend to see if anyone else was interested in joining in. We get tshirts screenprinted every year for the team... this past year we had Tuxedo Shirts with our logo on the back. Let me know if you want to join efforts. There is no requirement for corporate sponsorship on the teams, and we have never asked for any (althought Tattooed Moms Bar was talking about sponsoring us last year).
Anyway, PM me and let me know what you want to do.

It would be great to have a HUGE fixed gear presence this year... all of us with our bags on loading up on power bars at every rest stop. mwahahaha... I think I still have some of the S'mores bars left from last year. yikes.

Is your butt in gear yet? I think it is time to make housing reservations for this shindig. Nocoins, do you have any preferences/past experiences? Do you yahoos sleep on the beach under trashbag blankets or something equally zany?
I'd be happy to do some research or make some calls or whatnot if there's no preferences. Snoogins

What are our options? Should we break up into managable (room-sized) groups? Then each group of 2 or 3 or 4 are on the hook to each other for the $, rather than you (sucker!) holding the bag for the whole team. Sorry about the sucker comment, I just had to.
So maybe it'll be like picking which table to eat lunch at in high school. My table will have all the cool kids, and whomever waits till the last minute to line up housing gets stuck with Milhouse and the kid who blows milk bubbles out his nose.

Anyway, I kinda figure that I would just put out the word to everyone about what hotels are around with numbers and whatnot and allow people to kind of pair off and make their own reservations. I would love to go in with a few people, but I just cant risk making a big group reservation, last year a few people backed out last minute and I ended up paying for so many unused beds. I am starting school again this August (doctorial program) and I wont have the money to put out if it happens again. So far, not too many people have signed up for the team, so its hard to even gauge who is coming (lots of people usually end up signing up last minute). Anyway, I will try and put out that email this weekend with the list of places, last year we stayed at the Georgian (which was pretty nice) and the year before we stayed at the Tahiti Inn (which was less nice). If the team stays small, I think we could all stay together in the same hotel like years past.
Allowing people to pair themselves up also allows those of us with less money and who don't mind sneaking into a room and sleeping on a floor - to load up their rooms and split the cost making it cheaper, conversely, all the old men (eh hem, 30 year olds) can opt to get a nicer room and pay out for that (if their sore hips need that kind of attention). Anyway, let me know what you think. I am thinking of just starting a new thread so people know what they are looking at... i will do that now.

Hypothetical question for Team Shmeam:
What if one registered to ride in the SSFG 150 team, but then obtained a really sweet road bike. Would one have to join a different group?

Howdy, so I was just told about this ride from a friend who did it a few years back. I would love to get beat into your crew, is there a specific time and place where I can prove myself? But for real, what does one need to do to get down, raise money?
