since there seems to be such a small amount of fixed gear riders in this city,
I was wondering how many people from Albuquerque are on this site

Holla. You know me as the dork rocking the brake and helmet that occasionally rides with you and Max. As I'm sure is the case everywhere I've noticed 3x as many fixed gears as were around this time last year. If you remember the Big in Japan alleycat though, there was a sizable group of people. Either way I've seen a ton more people on bikes in general.
If you care we do rides from the Duckpond Clocktower every Wed. at 5. Everyone's welcome no matter the bike, but I think the fact that the majority of us are on fixed gears lends itself toward scaring people from joining us more so than encouraging others to ride.
And have you heard anything from Giant lately? He had been talking about putting together an event when I talked with him a couple of months ago, but he was planning on being out of town for some time and I haven't seen him since. I also want to know if he's savvy on the Fuji Obey.

yea its all good I guess. A lot of people just do it to get their status level +1 ya know. I guess I could see it's positivity in popularizing single speeds...if ya wanna do that.

It's funny. I guarantee I don't know 90% of the people from this town that lurk the boards, but if I were told what bike people are riding or rambled off what I'm riding there would be an 'Aha!" moment.

No immediate beautiful foliage. But perfect warm sunny days and crisp cold nights. Can't be beat! Doesn't make for bad riding either.
And there's mountains abound if you need to look at funny colored leaves.
Did your family send you any chile? You gotta miss the smell of it roasting.

Jake, I am going to give you a call...right now.
Also, about people in Albuquerque, I've been seeing more and more people cruising around on fixed gears. So there are numbers, although i don't know how many people are posting on here. Aside from fixies there are more people riding bicycles around town, which is always good to see.

First off. Name dropping is lame. Someone else already said it. It must be fact. It's the internet for Christ's sake.
Secondly. Goatheadz, The Cranks 505? What about Broken Bonez Velo? Ever consider rocking the Santa Fe Century fixed? Heartbreak hill? More like charge or die hill.
But back to name-dropping. Johnny--the fellow setting up the scavenger hunt--is a solid guy. He also did a Rasta Ride alleycat on 4/20 and mustered more bicycles than I've seen collectively in this area beyond the weekly clickety-clacking roadie cluster**** I spot at Winning's. I swear I've seen bikes there that rival in price that of my entire college tuition and see less use than a single sheet of toilet paper after the coffee sets in.
After closer examination of that flyer I've noticed that anything resembling something other than Chinese bicycle acrobatics has been dropped entirely from the event. I mean, wheelies and backward circles are neato and all, but hopefully this is just a onetime thing. The last thing that the bicycle culture around here needs to do is further establish some "unique fixie culture" that further offsets one rider from the next. I love riding fixed gear as much if not more than the next guy, but hell, bikes in general are just really ****ing cool.
Beside. Any ol' monkey can do tricks on a bike.
On that note. I should mention I was in fact glad to see I'll be able to make it to the Halloween ride. I know who's going to win it though, so long as he hasn't bent the fork I gave him by that time. Yeah. Ride safe and see you all there hopefully.

Hey. As I said I plan on being there. Just need to figure something out that Sam doesn't know. I think I've got one trick up my sleeve that just might do it, but then again, probably not.

Pfeh. No handed wheelies to wheel grabs are lost to me. I think if there's someone who has a fighting chance it'll be you.
But in all legitimacy two friends of mine and myself started doing training to try a fixed century registered as Broken Bonez Velo. We had secured sponsorship by Whole Foods (where one of my friends worked), but then the same fellow split off to Boston to become a courier. You probably rode with him a couple times. He'd picked up this beautiful vintage lugged SR frame at the flea market, labeled as a "skeleton bike." Came with vintage SR track cranks, bars, stems, Campy record wheels, the whole envy-inducing shibang.
I still ride with the other guy. He's got a silver Fiorelli conversion that one of his professors gave to him set up with a full Campy groupo, down to the pedals, toeclips and spokes. It was too small so he just threw a fixed wheel on.
But I digress. Also, if I meant to mention that we're doing weekly rides from the Duckpond at 5. I don't know if you can make it, but it's a decent size group. Mostly fixed, but we like to have anyone join in. Normally do a ride not too intense, like a section of Bosque trail and back up through Martinez Town or something. I thought it would be slick if we did Indian School and played around in the ditch one of these days.
I'm just jealous of Goatheadz because I don't get to roll with 'em that much. If only rides weren't so few and far between!

Oh and yes, Sam will destroy everyone. In all honesty though, i think a lot of the fixie tricks might as well be left to the circus. That's just my opinion. Then again, admittedly, some of the stuff in the new Mash video is damn impressive and some of which even Sam has yet to do.
