There seem to be a lot of people posting here from Columbus. Time for show and tell.

This is my 20 dollar thrift store find. I've been putting together a fixed gear bit by bit for the past year so this has been my ride until that project is completed.

haha! i was talking to my soon to be sister in law (weird) who lives in C-Bus about bikes one day. i told her i had a fixed gear which she didn't get. i said it was like what messengers and such usually ride around on. she said, 'oh those guys who always come into the office stinking and smelling of B.O.?' i said, 'yeah, that sounds about right.' :D

sorry for my random story but at least it was about C-Bus and fixed gears. haha.

Why did you post a geared bike in the fixed/ss forum?

I actually laugh when I think about people living in Ohio. Har har har.

haha, I drove across country once, saw a few gas stations in KS.

People from the middle of the country are so gross.

There are a lot of people who post in the ssfg forum who are from Columbus. Thought it would be a good opportunity to see what other people ride so we can keep our eyes open and be like, "Oh, it's that guy/girl."

Oh, and I think Kansas is actually pretty on the eastern half. Go more west and it's just barren flat land.

I grew up in south central kansas, and yes it does suck. although the seclusion can be nice.

my bottom bracket is making the strangest sound right now, i think i need to take it to the bike shop because its driving me insane.

columbus winters ruin bike parts fast.

yeah, i want to put a new bb/crank on it but i think i should wait till spring.

it was so nice yesterday, i went on a night time ride with some friends and wished it was 60 degrees every day in january

in sf or pdx, it would be.

edit: not true, but you know....it's way milder than ohio.

i managed to smash into a pedestrian yesterday and obliterate my shoulder. i was riding this bike:

and uh, if that street fighter II machine is better than the one at buckeye donuts then i must play.

not super awful. i couldn't move it much yesterday and today it's still too sketchy to ride with. i have high hopes for tomorrow.

after the first snow.

my bottom bracket is shot and my left crank arm won't stay tight so i am forced to carry a socket wrench with me and tighten it at every chance.

that's not good...can you hold out till after winter for new parts?

haha, nah, it was pretty much my fault. I was coming from the Jimmy John's at Lane and High.. I took off from the corner by the buffalo wild wings, was cutting across high to then cross onto lane eastbound at which point a dude walked right out of CVS and off of the curb. i had checked the corner to make sure that no one was there, but since he was on his way out of CVS, I didn't see him. It's been over a year since I've had any sort of crash, so I figure I was due.

as for your crank situation -- i have my suspicion that your crank is deformed and not the bottom bracket spindle, unfortunately. If the cranks are ISIS (the touro cranks now come in both ISIS and square taper), it's not uncommon to hear that they've been improperly installed, which can **** up the splines. If square taper, it sounds like the crank bolt was repeatedly tightened until it deformed the hole in the crank.

i'm pretty sure it can hold off. the only part that scares me is the bolt coming out of the crank arm, but I check it at every stop and keep it tight. so I should be good, maybe hit the bolt threads with some loctite.

i did take it over to B1, and they didn't see any major problems with the crank arm or spindle, so casey just threw a crank bolt on and I didn't have any problems for 3-4 weeks, and now it's flaring up again. so I'm assuming you are correct about deforming the hole in the crank, seeing as how I have to tighten the bolt once every 5 miles. but for a year of heavy use, just now having to replace the bottom bracket is surprising to me.

I'm originally from C-bus but have lived in San Diego (where I can ride everyday comfortably) for a few years now. I'm going back home in a few days to visit the family and want to check out what the shops around have to offer these days. So what are the good shops with track parts and all that jazz? Thanks

Haha, yeah, that was me. I wanted to pick up a few things but it was closed:( (the hours were different at the store than on the website) Do you work there?

b1 is a shop downtown that a lot of people like. they are friendly and have a good selection of parts and bikes.

baer wheels is in clintonville and as long as you dont mind the dude who owns it being kind of a dick to you - its a pretty good shop.

once ridden bikes on campus is my all time favorite bike shop in columbus. right now they have so many nice road bikes - a bridgestone, 2 motobecane's, 2 panasonic's and they are really nice. ive learned a lot about fixing bikes from just taking in my bike and having them show me how to do things. if you get chummy with them they let you raid the back room, i got a brooks professional saddle from them for 30 bucks once!

i would stay away from handy bikes and bike source, the former because they are shiesty *******s and the latter because its a corporate bike shop.
