ragbrai?
i'm doing ragbrai next year and doing it on my fg. i think it'd be awesome to get a group of fixed gears together and ride it as a group. there's plenty of time before it so there's plenty of time for me to work up to doing 50+ miles aday for 5/6 days, and to get some people together.

Is the itinerary out yet? If it goes through NE Iowa, enjoy walking up a lot of hills.
I suppose you could run two different cogs and flip the wheel in the valleys, but it'd really be a *****.

i was going to run a brake, and put my feet on my downtube on the downhills and use the brake to slow myself enough to get clipped in. and yeah, up hills, those could suck. but since it's ragbraii, there will always be someone slower than you

I *might* do it fixed. Depends on the what the girlfriend decides she plans to run. I'll need to check the route first. I know that my gearing is probably a bit high (and its only 76!) for the whole route. Need gering that won't suck too badly up/down...
What I really need is the route they plan to use this year!

You should at least go flip-flop and switch to the singlespeed side for the hills.

Dude I might do it. I rode Omaha to Chicago last summer right before ragbrai started. First bike tour ever, it was really fun too. Iowa is a fantastic state. Except Ottumwa sucked balls.
