trueno92: i didn't make it that far, i was close and then i realized i had dropped my bag, found it on the middle of the road on bayview, had been run over many times, everything survived but the bag, to my surprise ... the only place i'd see you getting dropped is at the back after i've already been dropped |

I generally recommend cavernmech or I_bRAD as wrenches (Cycle Solutions/parliament and The Bike Joint respectively) so you can always buy a BB and take it to them or see what they have in stock. |
Them's the guys alright. Why Brad got me all fixed awesomely this morning, correctly diagnosing and repairing my issue. It's ninja quiet now. Oh yes.
|
if I get a two cardboard bike boxes and use one to strengthen the other, will that be sturdy enough to travel to Europe with?
|
no .... they will get water logged and you will sink

seriously though , cut cardboard tubes to brace inside to make it crush proof, and you should be good to go.

Okay, I'm officially in love with the Don and officially mad as hell at myself for not trying this earlier. Rode from Queens Quay and Spadina to York Mills and Leslie in a little over an hour and fifteen minutes. Spent like 80% of that time nowhere near a major street.
I've got a question though. All signs point to 'no', but is it at all possible to ride that trail at night without $300 worth of lighting? Riding home at 2 AM down Y-y-y-y-o-o-n-n-n-g-g-g-e-e-e-e is going to destroy my joints/will to live, and every god damn time I take some random side streets I end up in cul-de-sac after f**king cul-de-sac. |

Going north around Yonge I usually use the side streets just west of there, or go as far east as Leaside and work my way through that area (Broadway Ave type areas, etc.) I just always try to make an effort to skip Eglinton/Leslie - that's the one area on the roads I do my very best to avoid riding through. Not sure what else to suggest, I personally don't like the idea of bombing the paths at night unless I can see well enough not to have "the fear"- even the MGT near my place (Sunnyside) can get fairly dark on the lake front, let alone the middle of the Don. |

The paved trail wouldn't be TOO bad, but I'd still want some decent lighting - otherwise I personally wouldn't feel comfortable flying around, I'd just go slow. The last time I rode home I decided to take Lawrence west because it was so quiet. Little did I know it stops dead just shy of Bayview. Oops! Doubled back and tried to take the Bridle Trail south. It doesn't connect. Oops! |
Just watch out for wandering hobos on the lower Don trail after dark.

i've ridden the path at night with just knog lights
not terrible, but the other concern would be animals in addition to the homeless as krusty said i personally would feel safer on the streets than down there at night you could take rosedale to leaside to don mills to york mills to leslie i agree that leslie and eglinton is generally very risky |
Just carry a couple extra cans of beer instead of spare change. Offer them one if you get hit up for change. I did that once on the way home from the depanneur when I lived in Montreal about 16 years ago. I ended up sitting on a bench at the side of Ste Catherine St. sharing my 6 pack with what turned out to be a street person with a fascinating history and stories to tell.
|
Hehehehe. That's not a bad idea. Usually by the time I'm half way home I'm wishing I had a beer or two. =S

Anyone know where I can get a mavic cosmic rebuilt... :(
My rear is at the point where I just want all 16 spokes replaced retensioned and trued... My love affair with tubulars is quickly Wheel has recessed nipples, but willing to swap out mavic threaded bits for campy nuts if interchangable Fading... |
any mavic dealer should be able to get the spokes in, assuming they are proprietary spokes which they probably are
la bicicletta probably has experience with rebuilding those wheels, i think you want someone with experience with the wheels |
i'd have to agree with jabba...... yonge north of eglinton is quite possibly one of the worst stretches of road right now.... it reminds me of bathurst between eglinton and bloor a few years back hahaha
|
I saw a hobo building a shelter in the don today. Dragging logs up the hill. I had such a glorious ride on the trail today after work.
Anyone have a good bike route to the pit that is the TORONTO CONGRESS CENTRE? Dixon and 27. I am going to be going there for a few weeks in July. |
