I just picked up a 9-speed Veloce setup on an old Benotto, it kicks ass too but it might be too much bike for me (:50:), we shall see.

you snagged those rims from the tri classifieds, didn't you!:innocent:

that is one hot benotto.... its not a mexican one, is it?

shapelike 07-22-09 07:18 AM

Fitted cycling jersey > chamois.

If you'll excuse me, I have to go feel slightly dirty/titillated now.

Nope, the complete bike was listed on CL last week with the title "can be use for parts" and no description whatsoever, just a terrible photo. I thought they were Shamals but when I got to the person's house, I saw that they were Shamal-esque wheels made by Gipiemme. They are nice though and the bike is very light, I bought it mainly for the Campy parts which will likely make their way over to my Ciocc.

TRaffic Jammer 07-22-09 09:22 AM

You must be stopped!!!!!

jet sanchEz 07-22-09 09:30 AM

Yup, it is true. I started to clean house in the spring when I listed my Concorde on CL but my bro-in-law talked me out of selling it because he wanted it. I gave it to him and he called me last week to tell me to come and take it back because he goes too fast on it and is afraid of dying, heh.

TRaffic Jammer 07-22-09 09:34 AM

Kind of why I got rid of gears, simply going too fast. Those Gipiemme's are gorgeous.
Yes Mike... +'s to females in Lycra™, but I said nothing.

Sorry to be "that guy" spreading 3rd person info but does anyone know what the situation w/ Mitch is? Apparently he got hit by a cab and had to go in for surgery. Hoping he's "okay" ...

TRaffic Jammer 07-22-09 10:01 AM

word is he's at home... somebody is speaking with Chris right now, updates in Ryan's FB status comments.
"Zef Kraiker
he's back at home, just talking to chris now."

cavit8 07-22-09 10:21 AM

Jeez it's open season; another cyclist got hit in the 'twa.

I_bRAD 07-22-09 12:27 PM

For the record, the cycling union fully supports the police ticketing blitz. Just saying.

TRaffic Jammer 07-22-09 12:34 PM

IMHO they seemed to fall squarely in the category of perpetuating the "cyclist inferiority complex" model, as opposed to pushing for greater education/enforcement of motorists, which in time would benefit all road users. I have an issue with this because generally cyclists being hit by cars are not throwing themselves in front of cars. But their position is based on the voting membership, no?

I_bRAD 07-22-09 01:00 PM

Well I think that if they kiss up to the cool kids (the police) the police will start to respect them, but really the police are just laughing at them behind their back and getting them to do their homework.

shapelike 07-22-09 01:03 PM

This is the most basic thing that I should already have but does someone have a concise document of Toronto cycling laws? Things like how cyclists are allowed to take as much of the lane to be safe, etc. I got honked at in the rain by two *******s the other day because I wasn't brushing the parked car doors on College and I want to refresh my mental ammunition in case I have to tell someone what's what.

TRaffic Jammer 07-22-09 01:15 PM

That's what I want to make... BUT one needs to get access to law brains, possibly a judge0. I mean hasn't virtually every possible thing on a bike been brought to court and argued by now? Threading? I'd like the booklet to be handed out to patrol officers as well, because they also seem to be allowed to interpret the law as they go along as well. Things like.... you don't need to see the cyclists' drivers license.

Mike .... in bad weather or whenever you DO NOT feel safe you are totally within your right to take the lane. (As explained to me by bike and patrol officers) Especially on out 4 lane mains arteries... but of course when faced with "Get off the road" mentalities, it becomes a moot point on the road. This is where drivers need to be edumacated, not bikers. I'm so sick of this if only bikes would behave we'd be safe mentality. That just means poke along at 10kph in the gutter and ride in fear.....that means open season, I've seen it too many times.

Bell on road bike? Hmmm removing my hand from the braking/control mechanism to ding a bell when I can yell much more effectively? I mean if i'm yelling it's because I am in an immanent evasive maneuver needed position. Would you honk your car horn if it was in the middle of the dash next to the radio? Oddly all the bike cops have flat bars with battery operated horns with a button mounted right next to the thumb.

I KNOW how militant I'm coming off. After all these years, I'm sick and tired of it being the cyclists' that need to adjust themselves to conform to accommodate the cars. The messenger centric way of riding is by far the safest way of riding in traffic.... sans red light rips obviously, BUT no level of gov't would know this, nor have they studied it, because it's easier to catch/enforce bikes than cars. It's like preying on the weak, and it pisses me off. Being in a car is a giant responsibility due to the killing power of the vehicle, and very little is being done in this city to reign them in. I see their aggressive behavior all the time whenever the think they can jump some poor bugger walking across the intersection, even trying to cut the corner on ppl walking carriages and such.

How the cars drive in any city are your indicator of how the rest of the population will act on the roadways because we all have to adjust to their behaviors. In so far as driver are concerned about cyclists they get what they give. No look/signal lanes changes they complain about of us.... well where does that come from do we think? I'd bet a years' salary if the cars all drove the way they are supposed to (by law), the lawlessness of cyclists on our streets would decrease, and peds would even behave better. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

"City-wide ban on bicycles with 'drop-style' handlebars"

I thought TJs point was about ticketing cyclists and having it go on their DL and why if you produced said DL, you got drilled as opposed to not. How does that connect with a ticketing blitz? I'll go re-read his posts. . .

Herbie_Glick 07-22-09 05:32 PM

Mitch is at home resting as per Chris. Mom is back from Arizona doing mom duties too. I haven't talked to him but should be able to have a few guests in the coming days. Just needs some downtime right now. Cracked his noggin pretty good and apparently the staples across his head make him look even "more badass" then before.

duppy.conqueror 07-22-09 05:43 PM

Someone suggested that he go to the cyclist union for help and I just wanted to point out which side they're on.

Try Darren at ARC, who can be reached through torontocranks.com, although TJ seems to have it under control anyhow...
