I have a flat, on a tubular I have. Does anyone know if I can use Vittoria Pit Stop, or another of those flt repair sprays as a permanent solution to the flat? Or is it just a short term, get home, solution?

definitely more than a get you home solution, but it does require some maintenance, you will need to remove the old sealant and put new sealant in eventually, which doesn't look like fun

anyone want (as in for free) a 58cm bianchi frameset?

it's lugged steel, dark blueish w/ chrome threaded fork, the paint has seen better days, at least in the rear triangle, but is in decent shape overall and would make for a good beater

horizontal dropouts, most of the decals are gone, but the headtube decal is there still

only catch is you have to pick it up at yonge and davisville before the end of the month, i just want to get rid of it by the end of the month so i don't have to take it with me when i move

Well, went to look at that Miele and talked the guy down a little bit and took the bike home with me. I went in expecting to find something that would turn me off of it after the advice I got here, but either it's a pretty solid bike or I'm just a lousy shopper. Checked everything for cracks, chips or dents and found nothing, no rust anywhere, hardly a scratch on it and the teeth on the cassette and chainrings look good as new. Even went so far as to check the sidewalls of the rims for wear and it all looks to be in better shape than my current bike (which admittedly has seen a lot of use the past two seasons) so I picked it up for less than the 400 the guy was asking for. I'll have pictures up when I wrap the new bars (old bars were something bizarrely small like 38cm or so) but for the purposes of a solid geared bike for occasional use and racing I think I'm going to be really happy with this bike. Took it for a test spin today before putting it away until the weather gets better and it rides really nice.

Regardless of what others say, I like Mieles. I have two, one I ride almost every day. It was ~$800 20 years ago and is still going strong. Not the lightest, but durable and they ride nice and that's good enough for me!

Yeah Sunrace makes whole groupo's now. I've heard good things about them.

Would these not have the same issue as 8 speed freewheels: a very long unsupported axle on the drive side?

Thanks Brad, yeah it's a really sharp bike. Resale value or name brand doesn't matter to me so much as having a bike I can tear down lakeshore or other open stretches of road on. I think this'll suit my needs very nicely. Plan on having pictures tonight with any luck.

In other news, my girlfriend's 14 year old neglect-a-bike finally refused to shift entirely and we popped into bike pirates. Really really happy with the service there and was also able to snag a used set of Time ATACs for 15 bucks, which even after a donation on top of that price I paid 30 bucks for pedals that match my fixed gear to go on the new bike. Since they last forever the fact that they're all beaten up isn't of much concern to me. Any suggestions on how to take off the ugly red paint so the entire thing is just brushed aluminum? Dremel with a wire brush maybe?

Not the cleats, the pedals which is even better.I meant that they match my pedals on my fixed bike, so I can use the same shoes and cleats between my fixed and roadie now. I'm definitely feeling that I got some good karma on that one. I did see a courrier fixing a flat in my work lobby today, lent him a tube and it's like warm fuzzy feelings all around haha.

Now just to get the nasty red paint off the ATACs and everything is golden

TJ- I use the urban backpack and it pretty much rules. Carries a lot of weight comfortably and it's only downsides are that it's just one massive pocket so things are sometimes hard to get to. It showed a lot of initial wear at points where the bag creased so I was concerned about durability but once it broke in it stopped getting any worse so I think it's normal. I know several people who've had them for years so I tend to think they're durable.

The straps loosen after a few days of carrying heavy stuff but just pulling them tightens it right back up. Lastly, if the shoulder straps are too tight, the carrying handle puts weight on your neck and makes it impossible to look upwards or even forwards in the drops. Not an issue when properly adjusted, but caused problems the first week

Thanks for the feedback, I am generally a shoulder bag guy but the straps felt kinda weird to me. I don't want a $200 messenger bag for a few reasons, despite the fact I will use it everyday.

Own the larger shoulder bag for a year, no complaints as I wanted to ditch the backpack. Keeps the wet out (not as well as the backpack i'd guess but good enough there is a large sealed pouch inside for papers etc) and dries off quickly. Key lanyard is useful. Cam device is ok, but a seat-belt style clip would be nicer... sew one in later for a few bucks. Hip strap keeps the bag mostly in place.. anyways wysiwyg. Both bags are nice.

Oh yeah and the quick-clips are easier to operate while gloved.

Have those quick clips on the shoulder bag ever popped/bounced open on you? Carrying a laptop back and forth ... it's a concern.
