Pyzer can attest to the great equalizer that is a stripped down singlespeed in conditions like we saw.

heehee those bikes look like they've been attacked by a swamp monster! those trails are going to need a lot of maintenance i bet, even if the race was called halfway.
- i totally agree trailer > seat
- pyze: cute pic (but then, how could it not be?) ...looks like someone just woke up from naptime!
- i too ride in fear of getting doored, moreso than usual. i'm quite small at the moment, but i have been reducing my speed significantly, partly to have more reaction time and partly because my cardio level seems be next to nil these days. however, apparently i can still rip a decent skid, as i discovered on my way to work the other day - no thanks to the jackass paper deliverer that nearly got me with a (unsignalled) right hook. the way i look at it is the foetus has more padding than i do and that i want to avoid transit as long as possible to stay strong/least-stressed, but it seems like i'm an anomoly with this perspective.
fyi there is a short section of new path open from dundas and sterling to cariboo and osler as of this weekend, with another stretch south to strachan soon to be ready. too bad it'll only be 6.5kms, but maybe if it is successful it will be expanded.

Doc said the same thing when C was preggers. He said the matrix of stuff that make the protective elements of a woman carrying is one of the most incredible engineering feats he's ever studied, not to mention it's 100% natural.

Dang, that is nice! I just got my new baby sorted out today, the stem looks great.
Kergin, I am running 9-speed on this and so far, the front derailleur is fine but, as you said, the chain is a little narrow for it. If it turns out that I have to get a proper 9-speed FD, I will let you know. Thanks again.

“SAFE CYCLING – SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITY”

Traffic Services
The launch of the “SAFE CYCLING – SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITY” campaign which will take place on Monday June 22nd, 7:00 a.m., 2009 at College Street between Augusta and Bellevue Avenue.
The Safe Cycling – Sharing The Responsibility Campaign will commence on Monday, June 22, 2009. The campaign will conclude on Sunday, June 28, 2009. The traffic strategy is a one-week initiative, designed to promote awareness and education by reducing the potential for cycling related injuries.
Traffic Services officers, along with Yvonne Bambrick Executive Director of the Toronto Cyclists Union, will be present to speak with the Media.
The Toronto Police Service reminds motorists of the dangers of opening car doors in the path of cycl ists and the importance of checking blind spots prior to making right turns. Officers will pay particular attention to those motorists who endanger the lives of cyclists including vehicles parked in designated bike lanes. Attention will also be paid to cyclists whose aggressive riding puts themselves, pedestrians and motorists at risk.
Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians have a responsibility to share the road equally by driving safely, riding responsibly, and obeying all the rules of the road.

Anyone know off the top of their head any courier outfits in Toronto that take newbies? Pay can be ****ty and I expect the work to be really hard, I just need something to ride out this idiotic strike my union dumped on me. It's that or dish washing, and I'd rather work daytime hours than wash dishes all evening...

I'm thinking about buying a house that has an apartment on the main floor. It's not legal, does anyone know if you can make it legal and how? I know how to do it (or have found) for basement apartments, but not main floors.

I believe the big one is having 2 egress/exit points. How can you know it is not legal but not know WHY it isn't legal? Yer the law talking guy.

Are you planning on this as a PPOR and renting the main floor? As long as the main floor is smaller than the rest of the house, it would qualify as secondary suite and you'd just need to bring it up to code. If it's close (e.g. second story = main floor) you can probably apply for a variance if the difference is small.

Jet, I love how that bike came together. Also, weren't you on a white Ciocc when you snagged that part from me? It was gorgeous, also. I guess you're just a fiend for C&V class.
Well, I can't contain myself about these Chris King wheels. They're outstanding general riding wheels. I'm running them on my Major Jake and its like night and day between the junky old wheelset and this new one. The rear is noticeably stiffer when pedaling out of the saddle, and the front is ... well... a front wheel? If you have the $$ to spend, or you happen to find these hubs for a good price, get them. They're worth it.
Perhaps a year or so after getting the Bad Boy this fall, I'll invest in some DT240 disc wheels. What's the word on 6-bolt versus centerloc disc? I know centerloc was Shimano's baby, but does it have staying power?

It's much better to get legal advice from people I don't know on the interwebs than look at a book! It's not legal because it doesn't meet fire codes (special drywall etc), but I wasn't sure about whether the city looked at first floor versus basement apartments differently.

These pics have given me the inspiration for wrenching on my MTB the last couple of days, giving it some badly needed maintenance. I did spring for a new 2x9 (2x8 in my case) crankset and external bearing BB yesterday. Hopefully later today I'll be able to see if the gear ratios work out. Numerically, they should be fine, especially because you can cross-chain this setup with no issues. One thing I have noticed in the short distance I rode last night was the significantly lower Q than the setup I took off it. Definitely a plus.

nice to hear of a doc that's not all doom and gloom.
noooooooo, say it ain't so! i know, i know some people need to use them, i just can't help but shudder every time i see one in urban traffic. i personally like standing UP on my bike so i can be extra visable - esp when cars can't seem to figure out how to stay in one lane. however, bRAD is going to build me up a bike with a low step-through (yeah, that's right a "girls" bike)!
