Natchez Trace Parkway 100 mi ss/fx ride

Location:

Natchez Trace Parkway just outside of Nashville, Tn, USA off Highway 100 in Bellvue, Tn.

Nashville/Clarksville/Cookville/Columbia/Franklin/Murfreesboro area Urban Asphalt(NOT to be confused w/Urban Assault)proudly presents is first annual Sweat Equity 100 mile no-drop singlespeed/fixed gear open invitational ride on July 18, 2009 w/a 6:00AM(SHARP!) start time. Parking will be in the first parking lot(on the westside) located near the north end of The Natchez Trace Parkway @ mile post 440. We'll be riding to Highway 412 (mile post 391) where there will be a full assortment of refreshments at the campground located there. They'll be expecting us. CASH ONLY! They're NOT equipped to process credit/debit cards as of this date. That may change within the next month, but don't count on it.

The entire ride will traverse the Natchez Trace Parkway out/back w/water/personal facilities @ MP 428(Garrison) and 408(Gordon). Depending on the overall skill level of the riders we may try to establish a pace line...or not. This is a social ride, primarily, but if we collectively decide to hammer it for 20-25 miles or so, be ready for it.

The temp/humidity on the return ride will be hotter/higher, so be prepared and hydrate yourself accordingly. Make sure your machine is in solid working order as we'd like to NOT be slowed down by mechanicals, etc. THIS RIDE IS FOR INTERMEDIATE AND ABOVE, EXPERIENCED, CONFIDENT CYCLISTS. Primarily, for ss/fx, but not limited to that. If you want to ride multi-geared you're more than welcome. Helmet, gloves, goggles not required, but HIGHLY encouraged.

URBAN ASPHALT ASSUMES NO LIABILITY FOR INJURY, DAMAGE OR THEFT AND IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH ANY OTHER CYCLING CLUB OR SPONSOR. THIS IS AN INVITATION TO RIDE, PURE AND SIMPLE. NO MONEY, NO MEDALS, NO WHINING.

If successful we're planning on doing other rides on the Trace including night rides, campovers, etc, ...which are really, really fun. Ok, that's it. Any questions can be directed to Glenn Kamka @ www.geocites.com/glennkamka or Jeff Jones @ welshdude2@yahoo.com. Hope to see you there around 5:30-5:45AM, Saturday July 18, 2009. RAIN OR SHINE, so be prepared.

PS: The ride will NOT be SAGed, so make sure you're plenty stocked w/goodies and bungees for raingear should it turn out to be that kind of day.

Because of a lack of response Glenn and I have decided to start the ride @ MP 423 which is .5 mi from my house instead of at MP 440 where the nothern parking lot is located. This means the ride will exit the NTP at MP 391(Hohenwald - Hwy 412W) as planned, but will continue into Hohenwald and breakfast at a restaurant called The Junkyard Dog. The food's great, so don't be put off by the name. If anyone's interested in going enter the NTP @ any entrance between MP 442, exit/entrance RT 96, exit/entrance RT 46 (Leiper's Fork) and Park in the lot located on left just beyond MP 424 heading south. Just after MP 423 is a bridge when Glenn and I will wait until 6:10 AM before starting out.

It's 80 miles to Hohenwald from there and we'll add another 20 by going past MP 423 to MP 433 on the way back and doing a 180 at that point and back to MP 423. Hope to see at least a couple more ss/fx riders @ the ride. Contact either of us at the e-mail addresses given in the previous post. Thanks for stopping by. There's only one water/personal facility located just past MP 408 at Hwy 50-Columbia/Centerville exit. But, on the way back there's one @ MP 428 as well.
