K-Fresh = A-mazin'!

Re: P.S.A.

I've been thinking about this for a bit. Did anyone catch the "Riding 101" booklet that Team Puma put out in NYC last year? It was ACTUALLY very rad. I had a lot of information on how to survive riding your bike in the city and was written with the help of Kevin Bulgar (sp?) or "Squid" and a bunch of the other NYC couriers who've been on the road a while.

Anyways, I was thinking it would be cool if we all collaborated on some basic things people should know and shoot a video for YouTube etc... - a sort of video version of "Riding 101" and we could even make ours Toronto specific (i.e. - the devil strip, etc...) And also cutting one that's geared towards drivers somehow illustrating how scarey it can be when people use a vehicle as a weapon and how quick something can go from "I'm gonna teach that biker a lesson" to "oh my god... I totally just killed that guy on a bike." I may be wrong, but I feel that's where the disconnect is. Or at least one of the major ones.

Thoughts?

That sounds like a fantastic idea.

Neat idea, do a chapter on riding in the winter as almost all the rules change; I ride with a "no one sees me, it is dark and slippery, anything goes as long as I don't get hit" attitude" ie: running reds, sidewalking it.

And yeah, that Puma booklet was pretty good, it was the first thing I ever sold on eBay, 35$USD back when we were at 68cents on the dollar. That money earned went towards my deep-Vs ;)

Devil Strip?

Also, CM? Anyone? I'm meeting up with a friend tonight. He had a really good experience at Charlie's ride and wants to see what CM is like as well. He's the huge guy (6'6", 260#) who was on the grey Cross-Check if anyone spoke with him.

@Jet: Hah! How ironic! And yeah that's a perfect example. I figured there's prolly like a hundred years of experience on this forum - in just about every condition.

@TJ: Exactly! That's a huge one for me taht I've been trying to teach all my friends who are bike n00bs. "You ARE a vehicle. If you have to take the lane for your safety... TAKE IT!" People yell at me for it and I just tell them, "I ride where I'm safe, because no one else is gonna look out for ME".

Shapelike: Yeah, the "devil strip" is that concrete between the two rails of the streetcar tracks. I believe I read it at the "From Alley Cats to Scorchers" show last year and it totally jumped out at me. That's apparently what avid city cyclists called it back in the late 1800's. I also like to bust it out every chance I get to try and rep Toronto bike history proper like! You know, pay hommage to those who ate ***** before us.

i kind of like riding in the devil strip... inasmuch as anyone can like streetcar-related street infrastructure.

anyway i am working on a "cycling 101" guide for ryerson students so i'd happily volunteer that information for reprinting/script/etc. or if you want to give your friends a copy, let me know and i'll pass some on.

Great idea Dr. I would love to help out in some capacity.

Stay tuned for a fall cottage mtb weekend in Haliburton! Working on the deets.

OT:
Anyone want an excellent quality/clean twin mattress or Ottomon for a song? PM me. Need to get rid of them. I will deliver if needs be.

A question for the MAC heads. I was walking back to the shop and piled outside a local apt there was a huge pile of stuff on the street. Someone apparently kicked out. Amongst this pile was a Power Mac G4 case. it seems to be all here. On the back of the case it has 400mhz...64MB SDRAM...HD-DVD Rom....worth keeping or fixing if it has a problem?

Yeah, that's worth having kicking around if it works. It'd get you on teh internets just fine. As for fixing, depends on what's wrong with it (if anything).
