If you can get a good deal at the show I say Catlike helmet, although you should probably just go for what fits your head. That is most important.

Do you want to walk in your cycling shoes? If you don't care/will change into running shoes when you get off of your bike etc. you could get road pedals like Look Keos, Shimano SPD-SL's (a copy of the Looks) or you could buy my Speedplays off of me (road pedals). I didn't like having 20 degrees of float but apparently I'm basically the only person who doesn't think that is the best thing ever... I'm happy with the 4.5 degrees I've got with my Look Keo Sprints.

If you do want to walk in your cycling shoes (I'm guessing you probably do) go for the mountain bike shoes that fit you best and get some Time ATAC's mountain bike pedals. When I was at the worlds in Dublin, an overwhelming majority of couriers who rode clipless used these pedals. Don't get Shimano SPD mountain bike pedals. Those things are so easy to unclip from when you least want to. Trust me I've been there. That can be scary/dangerous take it from me!

Thanks for the input, I guess that it isn't the saddle for me. The saddle on the bike is a cheapo version of a Sella Italia SLR but it is comfortable and has long rails so it is good for a lot of different positions.

I second Dans recommendation on the ATAC. I have tried most of the other systems and won't use anything else. Been using different incarnations since they came out. If you can find the older style..pre XS series than go for em. They will go forever and the retention and release is really good. If you are going for the current XS model make sure they have adjustable tension..this comes in handy when they get older and the spring starts to wear. Lots of folks like the Crank Brothers...they use a very similar 2 bar design...but the bearings in em...even the better ones..aren't as good or well sealed as the Times. They are however less $.
The cross race was swell today. Just wet enough for good traction and just warm enough for a short sleeve jersey. Wes and I both got 7th in our respective cats. YAY US!!

For road cycling/non walkable stuff - SPD-SL. For helmets anyting that fits properly, looks cool, cheap and CSPC 4tw.

Had a blast at my first cross race this morning. I'm definitely looking forward to racing on an actual cross bike rather than a mtb though. Those long, flat, grassy sections were a bit of a slog on fat mtb tires.

But man, what a ridiculous bike pr0n show though. If anyone wants to see stupidly high end rides, come out to the race next weekend. It's just at Bathurst & St. Claire. The 1:00 race was totally insane. I remember off the top of my head there being an Argon-18, a full custom carbon True North, lots of Ridleys, some Empellas, the Cervelo cross bike... oh and the BMC that raced in Master 3 (and K-Fresh totally pwned). Madness I tells you!

Oh and the weather? PERFECT.

ps. Nerdsgirth: your boy Ryan took 1st in the Senior 3/4 race. Apparently he and Jeremy (aka. Darkmother) had a pretty good race between them!

One of the other Bikesports guys did really well in the senior 1-2 race as well.

I think I need a new bottom bracket on my bike (12 000km). It's a triple, so I know the bb needs to be longer. Any other recommendations/ advice? I figure if I have an idea of what I need and the retail cost I can take a look at the bike show.

? You arne't running the correct length bb right now? Bb's are cheap, $25 for Shimano cartridge LX/105 quality MSRP.

im a new fixed gear rider, and was wondering if there are any alleycat type rides coming up any time soon, and if anyone would mind "showing me the ropes" (feels like a nerd for using that saying) that would be awsome


i ride an old norco road bike that i converted (49-16 gearing), atac pedals and red fluffy dice hanging from the handlebars/stem (dont have a car to put them in, and they couldnt go to waste :D ).





ps riding fast/far/long isnt a problem, so i wont slow anybody down (unless your all crazy fast)

If you go back a few pages you will see a poster that Dr. Benway created for sprints down at the Ex on Wednesday nights. I think they are at the Prince's Gates, I am not 100% sure, but it looks like a fun time.
