Yeah, I'm a bit of a utopian that way. I'm a bit of a loss as to how else gov't could promote active transportation. They seem incapable of providing safe routes for pedestrians or cyclists...

I don't think they're incapable, just not interested. Nobody in North America sees bicycles as a valid transportation method. Just look at public transit and bicycles. The most logical and best place to implement measures to promote cycling - zero.

No bicycles on during rush hours, no bike racks on buses, no bike racks on GO Trains. No bikes allowed anywhere near public transportation when "real people" need to get to work.

not to mention stupid suv drivers that try to run you over and then tell you it's your fault because you're in their way.

yeah, i'm still bitter...

I was thinking about suggesting @ the world's that they drag a car about to be scraped out to the island. Set up a perimeter around it and for a couple bucks you get to choose from various implements of destruction and take a few cathartic wacks at the automobile. The funds could be used for either TOBMA or some charitable org.

We did something along those lines at CMWC 95'. It was called the "lock toss" and it consisted of a beat up old car and a manequin head propped up on the drivers seat. The object was to see how far away one could toss their lock and hit the head. Good times!
