Suxors. I'll swing by the local pawn shop on my way home.

And yes, ride safe. Unlike the chimpanzee who tried to squeeze past the friggin' lumber truck that was waiting for the light as I was riding in this morning. Would have made for a great "start your day" visual. Take the lane.

Bleh, that sucks Andrew.

I got the computrainer details... Thanks!

Are we doing that this Sat or the donut ride? I don't mind either (am free and willing to do either on Sat too), but would be ideal to get things booked/setup in advance.

I passed by there this weekend and it was super gross still. The Pottery Road parking lot was a swamp. I mistakenly headed in there "pre-season" a couple years back and regretted it horrible. Giver some time.

Ok I need some help and this place is full of good advice. My wife has decided that she now wants a bike. After 15+ years of not riding she has been bitten by the bug. She saw the Kona Africa bike online and really liked it. It's simple and straight forward and is just what she wants for pure enjoyment and basic recreation. Any thoughts or input? Has anyone seen one of these in real life? Any alternatives that might be better?

FF I sent an email this morning to the 6 who contacted me saying this Saturday is OK with me if it's OK with you guys. Heard back from some saying let's do it on the 12th. I'm not ready for the donut until it gets warmer - ya a *****.

ick. just got back from my first ever 'investment' meeting. i never even considered RRSP's until it became part of my employment contract. riding home all i could think about was "there's no such thing as ethical investing, there's no such thing as ethical investing..." so much of what i do is all about opting out of the market system, and now i own stocks and bonds?! ick

ps. FF: summer shoes and gloves FTW
pps. Kergin: rest that knee. heat is good for stiffness if you're not swollen. if you are still swollen get looked at asap. i find arnica is helpful for healing bruises.

I can understand this concern. I don't have a soul, so I don't worry about ethics, but if I did it would be hard to do anything. I've suggested to others in this position that you invest in 'good' stocks, and donate 50% of your earnings to a charity you like. But since it's in your RRSP you can't really do that.

You could likely keep the money in a GIC and make no real money but at least it would be somewhat ethical.

Hey TOfixed!

Kergin, I don't know you but getting hit sucks. I got hit around this time last year and it still smarts thinking about it. Feel better soon!

Yay Spring weather!

And finally, does anyone know where I can get a replacement hood for a Shimano brake lever (not STI)? One of my cats chewed the crap out of one of them while I had my bike inside on the trainer for the winter.

Aaaand scene.

130 is the shimano road standard; about as easy to find as...something that's really easy to find. come to think of it, i have a good stock of 130 chainrings in my basement. should you win that auction and need a certain size, lemme know.

Thanks for all the good wishes and offers of help, guys. I really appreciate it. FWIW, I went to the walk-in on Spadina & Bloor to have the knee looked at. That doctor didn't think there was an issue, but he gave me a prescription for Naproxen and sent me to the x-ray clinic at College and Brunswick, just to be sure I hadn't broken or fractured my Patella (knee-cap). The X-Rays came out clean, but I was cautioned that the pain in my knee wouldn't subside for about 2 weeks. Hopefully, it won't take that long.

If I can draw anything from this experience, it would be a firm belief in mandatory re-testing for G or M class motorists every 10 years. Seriously, people need to keep having the rules of the road beaten into their heads. Now for some pics:

Cool on the 130's thanks.

Take care of the knee man, pushing too hard too fast can end up causing more time healing up. Ice 15min on then off for an hour if swollen. Until the pain is all but gone then spin ever so lightly , no mashing for a couple weeks.. Take it from an old skater with more scar tissue than skin on his knees.

Hi Jeremy!

... I am clearly working hard on my data. Did you guys know that "semitone distance" can be conveniently abbreviated to "STD" on an excel sheet? The more you know...

Yeah...the singletrack is probably still a mess but you can do the paved trail and switch off to the dirt/grass right next to it. Its not super technical but you can still get a pretty good workout hammering around there.

We have a few at the shop. Upright cruiser style, basket, fenders. For the type it is pretty sweet. Kona donates the proceeds from 1 out of every 3 to African aid.

I can't remember who was asking..Dr Benway? about the electric horns like Wes had...the Annoyanator 5000...we have some at C.S....$9.99.

Kergin sorry about the accident. I hope you recover soon. That sucks.
Bicyclesport was a much loved and iconic store run by Mike Barry (father of USPS, Discovery, T-Mobile, High Road and Canadian Olympian rider Michael Barry and owner/builder of Mariposa Bicycles). It was located on King St. East and closed up in 1990. Mike Barry later opened and ran Bicycle Specialties and just retired this past December.

What bike did your friend buy?
