A friend of mine was in that work safe commercial where the chef slips and drops the bioling water on herself. She said the stunt double had to go through an insane amount of retakes until she said she couldn't as she was really going to get hurt. Crazy.

strangely enough i also worked on that commercial. your friend is right, for a stunt we did a lot of takes. the director wanted to get a close up shot of the back of the girls head hitting the corner of the counter and she just couldn't get close enough (i don't blame her). the day after that we shot a guy getting blown up by an acetylene gas tank(notice dude in flames):

Hey Dan, you guys having a BBQ or anything to celebrate Sastre? I heard on the radio today "Spanish rider wins Tour on a Canadian bike". I immediately started thinking of Sastre on a CCM.
Did anyone else see Jens Voigt's saddle break off of his seatpost on the last stage? That certainly made Cervelo look bad! I wonder if it was the saddle or the seatpost that failed? Over-tightened clamp maybe... I hope it wasn't the seatpost because his post was the proprietary Soloist Carbon seatpost that I will soon be riding myself! |
I think we should have a caption contest for this pic, I'll start:

Wait, what do you do for a job? That seems like a good photo but I didn't know anyone worked as a stills photographer on shoots for commercials ...

I'm a camera assistant(i put motion picture cameras together, load film, change lenses, make sure everything works, act as a scapegoat for blame, etc.). Most of the time they have a stills photographer on movie sets but rarely on commercials. I just always have my camera with me in case we do anything interesting.

Am I the the only one who checked out the bike websites today half expecting to hear that Sastre was caught cheating after that incredible TT? I'm watching it live thinking "wow, he's riding well....but so did Vinikorov last year..." I'm glad that he was riding 'clean'.

I would wait for a bit to see who is going to take over making instant film, and whether or not they are going to keep the same formats that are currently available. I know the original HolgaRoid backs use a type of film that is getting REALLY hard to find except from http://www.unsaleable.com as for the L prime.... you can never go wrong if it is a focal length that you will use. i'm trying to decide if i should pull the trigger on a tilt/shift lens. |

I think for something like that you might be able to get away with just renting occasionally from Headshots or Vistek.
80mm 2.8 would be amazing for portraits and then rent a wider one if necessary. I've got a russian fisheye i'm happy with, as it was 1/10th of what the canon one costs. |
i meant polarizer, not polaroid.

"Last time I try to smoke while takin a crap..." http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3248/...44fae7bb3c.jpg "Tom realised too late that Mavis had indeed left the gas on as she had suspected earlier that day, and for once he regretted ignoring her constant paranoid text messages. As the cat narrowly missed his skull he wryly remembered the boy who cried wolf, and wondered briefly who picked up after that thing before the ground came swiftly to meet him." And 2wheelsgood, seven pairs of two is even better. My stable is at three, and it includces the unmentioned category of folding bike, along with the more pedestrian mountain and road. |
