I'm doing the ride myself so I may see you out and about.

Yeah, I didn't know about the walkout either (my route has way more cars than transit, so I don't always notice). Leslie was rock solid from Finch to Sheppard. I also saw more cyclists than ever today on that route, when I *may* see one. A couple of them were shoulder checking every two seconds so likely not regular bike commuters. The only downside is that people would normally take transit drive. Not always a good thing if they don't know what they're doing. I'm not looking forward to going under the 401 on Leslie on my way home unless the cars are bumper to bumper.

jeremywhitehorn 05-29-06 11:05 AM

41 degrees with the humid-x; who's going riding!?

Ill Mitch 05-29-06 11:19 AM

oh man just after riding to school today I had sweat pouring off me.

but we have to get used to it it'll be this hot for the whole summer

32flavours 05-29-06 11:20 AM

Yeah, the hotness made me wuss out of biking to Mississauga so I was on my way to the subway when my friend told me about the strike. Yay for unintentional days off!

Shiznaz 05-29-06 11:30 AM

Hey Rob, what do you have to do to volunteer on the DVP ride? just email them and ask them? I'm not a tbn member... I may end up just forking over the 30 bucks, as its for a good cause and I'm lazy. Let me know if its easy though and if Emma could volunteer too.

operator 05-29-06 11:49 AM

It's easy, just call Joe and he'll ask for your name if you are not a member (I know cause I called - haven't renewed my membership). He'll fill you in some basic info and that's it.

You get a free t-shirt and lunch to boot. In addition to riding the route. No probs with your Gf either.

I swear mine seems permanent now, at least on my legs. I have those lines in the middle of the winter.
Stains?

LMAO to the wank who thought the TTC made traffic worse.
Wore my new Sugoi zipup, half zipped and didn't mash to work .....awesome nice outside.
OHOHOHOH Mitch sighting 11:30ish Leslie/Queen...... not a terrible trackstand...

operator 05-29-06 12:05 PM

Ok quick question for you mechanics out there. Where do I start measuring for BB size? 68mm/70mm. Is it alright if I put a 68mm bb in a 70mm bike or vice versa?

not if you don't want those threads stripped. a mechanic at a bike shop with some measuring calipers should be able to tell you. i'd say a japanese-made bianchi would be a 68, probably a 70 if it was made in italy.

This is the info from my current BB.

Suntour (BB)
Taper: superbe size
Lug width: 68~70mm
Chain line: 43.5mm
58.5mmx2 spindle length
It also says chainline is adjustable, but ... wtf does that mean. Ok this is weird. My bb lockrings says 1.37x24t but the shell width is 70mm, which means it's supposed to use Italian?

help :|

Most English thread B.B's are 68mm shell width. There are some that have 1.37X24 that have a 70mm shell. This is the exception rather than the rule. ****mano does make 1.37X24 thread in 70mm shell. Call around and save yerself time....most (including me) shops only stock english thread in 68mm.

Please strike more. In fact please strike tomorrow so i don't have to class.

PS I'm getting this squeaking noise from my bike. Cranks tight, pedals swapped, happens sitting or standing, checked frame for cracks, nothing. BB? Anything I missed?

My immediate thought is chainring bolts as well. How often is it squeaking? Every crank rotation?

operator 05-29-06 03:23 PM

I don't have chainring bolts. I think I fixed it however, right pedal regrease. I hope it's not the BB cause MAN.

Yeah, but you start at what, 10? Out for a morning ride while it's still relatively cool. Inside for the puking hot part of the day then home again, jiggety jig, in the early evening. Yeah, it sucks to be you.

my normal shift is 1;30 TO 9:30 PM AWESOME HOURS,, I was riding all over downtown today it was alot of fun tons of bikes out there, now on a serious note I've never had crotch problems from biking before but it is bloody sore since I started riding fixed I changed again the seat and seat post , what gives. thanks

eyefloater 05-29-06 04:39 PM

Hahaha, ya ... sorry, I was having a low moment. My hours are totally the same length of time, I'm just very much so an "early shift" person when it comes to work. I didn't mean to imply that I have it rougher than anyone else because god knows there's people out there w/ tougher jobs everyday.

/end apology for moment of self pity

PS. I actually just ran out the back door and rode around for 10 minutes. Felt WORLDS better after that.

Goldsprints Tonight, event begins 7pm, Gladstone Hotel.

Part of the CBN event at the Gladstone tonight, there is an auction, music, exhibits I think & general fun-ness.

I'm thinking about going, but I feel pretty beat now, my messer company called me up & asked me to work cause of that strike dealie so I went in and covered a bunch resulting in a fatigued funk I feel now. Maybe I'll show up after dinner and watch you guys n gals race? You all any you going?

operator 05-29-06 04:58 PM

LAME. It's 31 degrees in my room. FTS. This calls for a midnight ride.

:) toronto's well represented on bikeforums but i think there's a lot more the city could do for cyclists. those were the heady days when we were voted the best city to cycle in in bicycling mag way back in '95... san fran, chicago, nyc, boston; i'm sure cycling communities are just as vibrant in those cities, they just don't have as many bored people posting from work!! but definitely screen mashf here please..why were we left out?
