Last thing I'd ever want to do is be out of sight of land. Pass. I had a buddy that crewed at tourist catamaran in the US Virgins every winter. Scumbag would come back in the sping all tanned and fit and go tree planting for the summer.
Goold ole land. Hasn't failed me yet.
mmm Land you're always so hard when I face plant on you. So quick to give me road rash or a nice hipper. You let me powerslide downhill at full speed on a skateboard and live to tell about it, I thank you land.

Getting back to the land, Newfoundland, particularly gros morne, is an amazing trip. $400 return to fly into Deer Lake, then bike up to the park and further if you want. The ex and I did it a couple of years ago riding up to St. Anthony. Honestly once you get much past the park north it's pretty barren although l'aux a meadows is pretty interesting.

Is that where you have to check in with the park wardens if you are proceeding North? "just in case...." dang ...now I wanna totally go back to the East Coast too Shizy this should be a super trip.
There's a cross-country hike in to Gros Morne from a spot I don't recall. They give you a GPS and come get you if you're really late for check-in. There's no bears, raccoons or skunks on the rock, which is kind of nice. Tons o' moose though.
Geez, cavit8, your pictures are really nice. I was lucky enought to do a four day hiking trip in Gros Morne, and that really sent me back. It's incredible there. Did you guys do the 'Grand Traverse'? I wanted to, but didn't have the skills to pass the test.
No, we were self sustained so didn't carry the gear to do the Traverse (the route from Western Brook Pond to Gros Morne). We did some hiking around Green Gardens, Green point and Trout River. Next time, though, I'll definitely be going back.
actually, there are bears.. no grizzlies, but brown bears. Plus the occasional polar bear that drifts in on an iceberg (no jokes).
Point. We were at a spot just out of St. Anthony where a polar bear had been spotted a couple of weeks before. MIsfired no the bears, so no muffins in your tent if you go.

My knee is ****ed. This is so annoying. I took last week off and now after working a half day yesterday I couldn't go to work again today due to stiffness/pain/inability to pedal my bike. Doctor/Chiropractor both told me to push it a bit but also give it time to rest/recover. That basically means I am going to be working periodically for half days for the next couple of weeks or so. And this is the busy season too so its big $ time (relatively speaking) in the Messenger business. I want to ride my bike dammit! I'm going nuts! :(

hmmm... That restaurant wasn't very good and was an eyesore, and I always saw actors I hate through the window. So far Tom Cruise, Ben Affleck and Nicholas Cage. These are pretty much my 3 most hated actors. So in my books that restaurant never had much going for it.
