I used to smoke for about a year back during high school. Then I just stopped one day after smoking like a chimney during a summer in france (even my parents started smoking after living in france! They are still at it in Dubai now.). In 1st year university I used to be a fiend for smokes when I was drinking. During the past few years however, having a cigarette makes me feel pretty ill, and not in the good sense of the word. The idea of having one is not appealing.

Ask any doctor and he or she will tell you that the worst thing you can do to your body is smoke cigarettes. Being an alcoholic sucks and smoking too much pot isn't good either but you are better off doing either or both of those drugs than smoking cigarettes.

no, you buy it at a convenience store as you go along.

andrew...call me ASAP

i used to roll my own smokes when i worked as a bartender in the UK. mostly out of boredom to be honest and when i came back to canada and tried to keep up the smoking habit i found it was just too inconvenient, you can't really smoke anywhere here. i'm glad i don't, even though everyone in the restaurant industry does, probably because it's the only way to get a break. so i just stand outside with them and shoot the ***** with a coffee in hand.

PS - scotch next thursday works for me. the more the merrier. is it okay if i bring something i made in my bathtub?

jeremywhitehorn 04-26-07 09:31 AM

this is the first time off i've had in a long time and now i'm bored as hell. anyone want to meet for coffee and a cruise around? i poked my head outside and i'm not sure i feel like doing a long ride in this weather.

If anyone out there leaves their lock attached to a bike ring for convenience make sure to remove it today. The City guys just came by and cut one of my minis off the ring out front of the shop. Thanks for enquiring at the BIKE SHOP if those are being used. Jackasses.

Well it's nice to see how secure they are!

Shiznaz 04-26-07 09:46 AM

I don't think regular bike thieves have high powered grinders and hydraulic clippers thoughs (at least I hope not!)

It would be an interesting experiment for someone to lock up their own bike and then bring these tools to try and steal the bike. I wonder if people would do anything to stop you.

there's a video on youtube somewhere of a guy in NYC that does that very thing. of course, being NY, no one bats an eyelash.

I just saw three cop cars on College with a guy still straddling his bike in handcuffs. Maybe it's an all out cyclist assault? I'm actually hoping he's a bike thief that was caught in the act.

I wouldn't count on that. These guys were using a run of the mill cordless grinder with a metal cutting wheel and it took all of 2 minutes to hack 3 u-locks off.

ridiculous bike mount:

Random somnambulant sighting of the day. Looked pretty stoked about that meeting there wes :P

TRaffic Jammer 04-26-07 11:09 AM

Is that to beautify the bike rings or to minimize the number of places a thief can lock a stolen ride up?
Real nice that they asked Keith..... tools. Send them the invoice for the new ones.

Anyone know if you can put panniers on a Specialized Allez Sport? A friend might buy a used one, and wants to be able to do some basic touring if he wants in a few years. That won't be the focus, but it would be nice if he could do it if he wants too.

Shiznaz 04-26-07 11:57 AM

I don't think they have rack mounts and there will be heel clearance issues, but it could be worked around. A carradice bag under the saddle with some small front panniers and a handlebar bag would probably be the best option come to think of it.

that made me think of this song (although just reading it doesn't do it justice):

Hallelujah I'm a Bum

Oh, why don't I work like other men do?
How the hell can I work when the skies are so blue?

chorus: Hallelujah! I'm a bum, Hallelujah bum again,
Hallelujah! give us a handout and revive us again.

Oh, I love my boss and my boss loves me,
And that is the reason I'm so hungry.

Well, springtime has come and I'm just out of jail,
Without any money, without any bail

Oh why don't you save all the money you earn?
Well if I didn't eat, I'd have money to burn.

Oh, I like my boss, he's a good friend of mine,
And that's why I'm standing out in the breadline.

I can't buy a job 'cause I ain't got the dough
So I ride in a boxcar 'cause I'm a hobo.

I went to a house and I knocked on the door,
The lady said, "Scram, bum, you've been here before!"

I went to a bar and I asked for a drink,
They gave me a glass and they showed me the sink.

Oh why don't you work like other folks do?
How can I get a job when you're holding down two?

Whenever I get all the money I earn,
The boss will be broke and to work he must turn.

I went to a house and I knocked on the door;
A lady came out, says, "You been here before."

I went to a house, and I asked for some bread;
A lady came out, says, "The baker is dead."

When springtime does come, oh won't we have fun,
We'll throw up our jobs and we'll go on the bum.

Shiznaz 04-26-07 12:12 PM

I get to be a hobo soon. Thank god!

TRaffic Jammer 04-26-07 12:17 PM

I liked being a hobo so much ... I bought the company.

somnambulant 04-26-07 12:17 PM

you need one of those little bandanna satchels on the end of a branch.

Shiznaz 04-26-07 12:23 PM

I'll be a technhobo

Hrm, that is interesting, that they are cutting old locks off and the detritus left over from the winter ie: abandoned bikes rusting away. I think the City of Toronto Auction is next month down at the Ex, all of those bike end up there.
