28mm tires on Trek 1500 (2004 model)
Anyone ever done this?
I'm thinking of converting my Trek to a commuter bike. Some of the paths are crushed gravel and I'd like a bit more width.
My big concern is tire clearance and propensity for junk (leaves, mud, etc.) to get caught up under the brakes.

My Trek road bike came with 25s, so I doubt 28s would be too wide. However my LBS said the reason my bike came with generic brakes (as opposed to 105s like the rest of the components) was because it had wider tires and the 105 brakes wouldn't support wider tires. I bought it, but I didn't give them much for it. So if they were correct, you may have issues with brakes even if the tires fit your frame/fork, assuming you have 105/Ultegra/etc brakes.
