BHS vs BDOP DIY kits (wheel building)

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The info on our new hubs has been posted on our blog, and info on builds is on the site as well for those who were curious about them.

I know this is an old thread but thinking of the BDOP kit with the Fratelli rims. Expected to weigh in at about 1330 grams as per my calculations. It's a 20/24, but we have Souls as well as Fulcrums in 20/24 and they seem fine with our weight, on our roads.

My wife is 110 pounds and I am 155. Would those weights be OK for this lightweight wheelset? Good roads, but plenty of speed humps which are not gentle.

Yes, you should be fine as long as the wheels are built and tensioned correctly. The only real disadvantage to 24 spokes in the rear is that the wheel comes quite out of true if you pop a spoke and it could rub the frame depending on the clearance. That means you might have to call a car if that happens (it's very frame dependent.) I've popped spokes on 24 and 28 spoke rear wheels and with 28 I didn't even have open up the rear brake (I weigh ~150lbs.) On my Cervelo S2 I was able to ride the bike home when I popped rear spokes both times.
