New Wheel Upgrade
 

I have a 2006 trek 2200 with the stock Bontrager Lite wheels. I'm looking to get a second pair of wheels. Are the Vuelta Corsa Lite's an upgrade or just about the same? I'm looking for right around $300 for the new wheels. Any advise.

Bontrager Race Lite wheels are like $800 from the factory. You're not going to get an "upgrade" at the $300 mark. I'm sure the ones you have from 2006 are worse than what is being offered now, but still. I don't think you'll be getting anything that is even worth doing at that price point.

I actually think they are just Bontrager Race wheels and not Bontrager Race Lites, is there a difference or just wording of Trek?

Right now they have 3 models... Race, Race Lite, and Race X Lite.

I don't know about the 2006 lineup but I can't imagine its much different in terms of the steps from one model to the next. The 2006 model is probably heavier than the 2015 model, but still I don't think $300 is going to be worth it.

Ultegra 6800 wheels can be had around $300 online (new) and that's probably your best bet for that price range, but still probably not better enough than what you have to be worth it. Dura Ace C24's are around $750, that would be worth doing but at 2.5x the cost it might be out of your budget.

From what I've seen, those are already pretty good wheels. I upgraded from Shimano RS10's that came stock on my Cannondale, and threw on the Vuelta Corsa Lite wheels and there is a huge difference not only in terms of durability (I've had to true my RS10's every 400-500 miles, whereas my Vuelta's only needed a very small lateral adjustment after 850), as well as weight and feel. It's pretty easy to get better wheels than RS10, though. If anything, you might be saving weight as I have not been able to find specs regarding your current wheelset. Ultegra wheels are a very good competitor to the Vuelta's being in the same price range.
