What color is most visible from the road on a clear day?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So what color should we make all cars be painted so we can see them? And most definitely all motorcycles.

It depends on your surroundings. Hi-viz neon green isn't necessarily that visible.

For dark to medium backgrounds I think yellow works best. For light backgrounds I'd for for the safety orange, since the yellow can get washed out on a sunny day in the snow. Not many road riders ride in the snow, though.

You could always do both.

Cars should all be done up like British police cars. I guess that could get confusing in Great Britain, however.

Is this some kinda vague reference to the CA proposal to require hi-viz gear for cyclists? Most comments sections on articles about said proposal are littered with "Oh yeah? We should paint all cars hi-viz too!!!"

Yellow flouro is the most visible. I think Global Cycling News did a video on this but can't find it.

I wear a Take-A-Look mirror, mounted on my glasses, and for my money it's not a car's color that makes it more/less visible; rather, it's whether or not the driver turns on the headlights. I don't care how high-visibility its paint (and I wear high-viz, long-sleeved jerseys year-round), if its headlamps aren't lit, it's not "on the map".

someday, in a time far far away, people will look back in history in amazement that cyclist rode with cars zipping by them within inches at 80mph.

someday there will be dedicated bicycle trails everywhere!

Yellow plus black are the most immediately visible colors to the human eye.

This photo sold me on the benefits of the TTS kit when riding solo in the dappled light of my typical rides:
