Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

One of the many reasons I gave up bowling and took up biking.

At the end of the day, if you think that owning a more expensive bike or riding more miles than me makes you better than me, then I guess you should feel good about yourself

Sadly this is true. Just look at the amount of negative replies that this thread has received, attacking me for being a big baby when my post was pretty neutral and meant to gather peoples opinions. It's as if I insulted one of their kids.

Gonna be a gorgeous day here in Western NY! I'll go around Canandaigua Lake, about a 50-mile scenic ride, just hilly enough to make it interesting.

I know this has nothing to do with the OP but do you really want to read more about this crap topic?

Give everyone a break. Choosing a title that plays to the worst stereotypes of a tiny subset of riders and following it up with sweeping generalizations is not neutral.

People really don't care about you or your bike. If you rode more or actually met a bunch of cyclists you would know that.

You get negative replies because you posted a negative trolling OP, one which isn't really true. What did you think would happen?

Small wee-wee syndrome. People of weak character compensate by trying to amass physical strength, and then using it to humiliate and marginalize others. People who are secure, are humble, and seek to elevate others at their own expense, rather than vaunt themselves at the expense of others. In a way, a lot of roadies are doing the same thing as the buff asshats at the gym; their arrogance may be a little harder for the average person to see, but that is exactly what they are doing when they hog the road; or blow through lights and stop signs in populated areas, etc.

Have you ever actually seen a strong person being an ******* at the gym? Usually, the strongest people are the kindest and most helpful.

Point out where I made a sweeping generalization. I'll give you a cookie if you do.
