Pack Riding

I'm new to road cycling. Jut got my first road bike last year, and have been riding solo since. I've been kinda nervous about riding in a pack of bikes. What is the ettiquette of riding in a pack? It appears as though they take turns up front. Also, are the special links to find groups in my area to ride with? Thanks, zippy

Check with your local bike shops for rides and riders to join.

If by "packs" you mean group rides, and I'm assuming you do, there are a variety of ways to ride. By that I mean if it's a paceline there are rules that are different than just group riding recreationally. I would suggest asking for advice and descriptions of the rides. Hopefully you can find a seasoned rider who is willing to help you. I would also suggest starting out in a group one step lower than you are capable of riding. It may help you to learn the rules and techniques without the need to be on top of your game physically.

if you haven't done it, don't do it?

Thanks for the advice

Nice Link. I will probably wait until I am more seasoned. I am confident in being able to keep pace, but I probably am too herky jerky to ride that close to other riders. Thanks

Wow! Great read. A lot to digest. I would def need to pull up the rear until I get more comfortable. I can already see that some of my riding habits would not work well in a group ride.

You can look online for cycling groups in your area, or stop by some of the local bike shops and ask about group rides for beginners. Take a look at meetup.com. Give yourself some extra space as you learn how things work with the group and be sure to discuss hand signals, speed, etc. before you start rolling. If you think you're ready, give it a try.

Let's have a hand for pdedes - a true visionary.

Definitely ask around in your LBS(s) and google "paceline ettiquette" or "group ride ettiquette". Don't let dicks discourage you.
