Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wheel Upgrade: EA70 LTD?

Performance Bike has these on sale 20% off. Are they worth upgrading? Never had an easton wheel. I am upgrading from Bontrager Race on my 2013 Madone. I am 190 lbs so I need some that are sturdy. I'm a recreational rider and do a lot of climbing in the utah mountains. Just looking for something that rolls good and is durable. Right now these are $370 shipped, any other wheels I should consider before purchasing?

No experience with them but that does look like an outstanding deal.

Looking at the RS81-C24 now. They are a little more. Not sure what to get but I would love to take advantage of the 20% savings.

I had/have the Easton EC90 (CF wheel) that is also 20/24. Easton has this tuning fork spoke tensioning process that they use of which they are very proud. That said, I kept breaking spokes until I had the wheel completely un-tensioned and re-tensioned the old fashioned way. So, while the wheels were a good deal, I've never been completely confident in them and just this week ordered some Enve wheels to replace them.

That all said, I'm not lightweight which likely plays into it. But still, breaking spokes on the front wheel?

So I think they are a good design, I just don't buy off on their method of tensioning the wheel.
