"Internal" Saddle Sore
I have an interesting saddle sore issue. This is not a traditional skin issue. But between my right side sit bone and skin I have this lump thing. It is maybe an inch long, maybe a quarter inch wide, and is marginally sore. It isn't sore enough to prevent me from riding (at this point), but on general principles I took two days off (needed at least a day off anyway just from a recovery perspective). The was helpful (less sore and a tad smaller).
Almost certainly related to this is the fact that somehow my saddle got pointed every so slightly to the right side. That was resolved and was/is also helpful in making this more tolerable (was never really that bad). Has anyone else ever run into such a thing? Thanks. dave |
I get this too. Time off and ibuprofen helps some. I also tried a bunch of saddles and currently use a Selle Anatomica, but it's still an issue after about 4 days in a row.
Low intensity riding makes it worse-- maybe from less pedal pressure/more saddle pressure. Raising and twisting the saddle a bit helped. I have a slight spine curve, which I'm guessing results in more pressure on one side. Maybe you have a similar issue? |
I get those and it's just another type of saddle sore. It's below the skin surface and is a little pocket of infection. Try using some lube like Chamois Butr, vasoiline, or even Neosporin. Actually Neosporin is a good idea to put on before and after rides. At some point you can even pop the area in a hot shower.

Some are infection, but others are a permanent lipid mass completely under the skin, a lipoma, aka biker's nodule.

It could be a pull or tear of a groin muscle. Google cycling related groin muscle injuries.

I had that up under my nuttsack.
My GP said it was a cyst and referred me to a Urologist who said it was just an ingrown hair [stubborn zit]. 2 weeks of antibiotics cleared it up. :thumb: Never met a zit i couldn't conquer but that one was it. |
Use chamois cream and wash / dry thoroughly after rides. If it persists, it cannot hurt to see a medico for a considered opinion.
cheers |
The groin area for cyclists gets such a workout with constant sawing from side to side grinding in body oils, skin bacteria and anything else that can accumulate there that I now clean the area well also before a ride. Clean shorts and a shower afterwards is just a beginning of good hygene there.

I sometimes get saddle sores that are big blind zits. I use pimple cream, try to have a day off, and swap saddles/bikes. If there's no improvement, I sit in a shallow tub of very salty warm water, which always does the trick

Wow, sure glad I decided to read this thread while eating lunch
Anyway, I was having saddle sore issues, and had tried all the recommendations: * Hydrocortisone cream * Topical antibiotic cream * Tea tree oil * Bag Balm Nothing was particularly effective. On my semi-annual visit to the dermatologist to check for skin cancer, I mentioned the problem, and he recommended zinc oxide cream--basically, diaper rash cream. I tried this stuff, and (for me at least) it has made a remarkable improvement. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=459946 |
OK, I'm sure I'm barking up the wrong tree here, however, I have to say this to clear my conscious. While I get why you're asking your question here, and the advice you're getting is from a ton of personal experience and is most likely appropriate for your situation, (most of) these people aren't doctors. If you're concerned about it, please, go see a doctor. It's worth the co-pay. In 2011, I had a weird "knot" in my leg. Turned out to not be a knot, like everyone thought. Going to the doctor saved my life.
But then again, it's probably a zit! :D |
thats probably an ingrown hair. if you cut your ahem, hedge short, that is what does it. the hair follices become sharp and the tight clothes makes it easier for them to grow back into the skin. not to gross but you should get up in there and check it out with a mirror and flashlight. ingrown hairs and road saddles are the pitts. good luck.

Best get it checked by a doc, if it is an ingrown hair it can turn into a thing called a pilinodal sinus, where an infection follows the hair shaft. Also known as jeep drivers ass. Not good, can mean an operation to dig it out. Or it could be something else, who knows... While the doc is rummaging in the basement he/she could check your prostrate anyway, a 2 for 1 special.
