Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'd report it just so it is on record in case another and worse incident takes place with this clownhat.

Thats another reason to wear MTB shoes/run SPD pedals. Better for throwing punches if it comes down to it with some A hole driver.

Get it on video, and file a complaint with the local PD.

Locally, this idiot got 3 citations for harassing cyclists: Driver Cited for Harassing Cyclists in Viral Video - ABC News

And just a few days ago, I got charges filed of "passing where prohibited", and "reckless driving" on an idiot I filmed while riding my motorcycle: https://www.bikeforums.net/advocacy-s...ng-camera.html

I do not use that bad word.

Proper equipment is a little piece of paper with 911 written on it as an aide memoire

I lived with a year of escalating tension and run ins with the guy and his friends that almost became violent a couple of times. Luckily I moved out the neighborhood so I don't have to deal with him now.

Honestly, I get pissed in the heat of the moment on the bike when I have these run ins on the road. And I am at least getting buzzed and honked at regularly where I live for doing nothing but obeying the law. But recently here we had a run in with a motorcyclist that confronted a driver at a stop light that buzzed him while driving and texting and this happened

Now I think twice and mind my own business
This is a joke, right...?

The guy on the bike completely initiated that. Did he deserve to get hit? Absolutely not, but he could've easily avoided that situation.

And the fact that he started a gofundme or whatever to cover his bills...? I really hate the world we live in sometimes.

I like the idea of smiling and waving at him, but in the heat of the moment, I would have reflexively shot the bird too. Definitely don't do something like vandalism, escalating things escalates things. No reason for you to make him remember you in a bad way.

This thread makes me glad I am not riding in America though. I can be the big pissed off foreigner here, in America I would just be a skinny guy in funny shoes.

After thinking of this and reading the comments I would either leave it alone and see if there is a second incident, or visit his house with a cold six pack and see if you can have a chat over beer and no one jacked up on adrenaline. He might tell you to leave but not likely to end in violence. Or it could resolve the problem. The odds of this guy not being a beer drinker is remote!

Know a couple of young people who work as detention officer for Joe. One told me everytime meals are served he gets a woozy stomach. Itb is said Sheriff's K-9 get more spent per meal than the inmates.

Guess this is the reward for going a foul of the law in Joe's County, and being caught.
Was it the 30 days or the $10k in court costs that taught him a lesson? I know people with multiple DUI's that haven't spent a day in tent city because they can afford a decent lawyer. The vending machines inside are owned by the Arpaio family and have jacked up prices they know the inmates will pay so they don't have to eat the slop they try to pass off as food in there. Fingers crossed our days with that ass are nearly over, the feds are coming down hard on him and sweet justice will be him sitting in the hell hole he created.

REALLY?!?!? I'd suggest the motorist might have been distracted (by any number of things).... and only saw you at the last second and reacted with the horn. Or maybe he thought you were taking more lane than reasonable or required for the speed you were traveling.

This is the part of your post that caught my attention and prompted me to post!!!! I am by no means or in any way expert in such matters but that certainly sounds like you're suffering from Intermittent explosive disorder. You should avoid cycling.... and consider discussing this with a medical professional. I can't imagine this condition getting better on it's own... and there are medications that could provide you with a level of relief. Best of luck!!!

Whenever I get honked at by a driver, or yelled at by an idiot in the passenger seat, which is extremely rare, I always play out some beautiful revenge fantasy in my mind for the remainder of my ride (be it 20 minutes or 3 hours) then end up forgetting about it and doing nothing.

I think you guys are all going about it wrong. What’s the one thing just about every person fears? Getting sued!

I work in the legal field and understand the law well. I’ve been on the successful said of over 20 class action suits, suits with neighbors, suits against my HOA etc. If I knew the perf and he laid into his horn while passing very close more than once while I was traveling at a speed of under 10mph I would decleat, kick his car and take a dive. Not a header, but I would just roll over on the side and go down. I would fling my arms and legs violently and then call 911 as I’m on the ground suffering in pain. If you have a go pro then all the better. It doesn’t have to record the incident just face it backward so the camera gets the perf on film coming up from behind. The audio of your cleat hitting the car and then you screaming will really sell the story! Then of course I would call a lawyer. Not a good one a sleezy just out of law school guy looking to make a quick buck. Someone that reminds you of “better call Saul” type of guy. Offer him 50% of whatever he can get in a civil suit and turn him loose! Even if you don’t have a case the key is your guy works for profit that “might” be made after the suit is over so you don’t pay a single penny out of your pocket. He will have to hire a lawyer to defend himself and will have to for his defense up front so at a minimum you already one by digging into his pockets regardless of the outcome. If the state has a 3’ law then he could also face criminal charges in addition to the civil suit.

Bottom line is if you go down you will OWN him plan and simply. FYI make sure you invest into a good helmet first and practice your roll. You want a few scrapes and bruises, but you don’t want to break and arm or anything.

Quoting this for the sheer stupidity of the thing.

You do realize that him thinking I'm taking more lane than he thinks is reasonable means NOTHING, legally or morally? First of all, I wasn't. Second of all, motorist don't get a free pass to harass us just because they think we are taking more lane than they think is reasonable. Are you even a CYCLIST?!

I am so not suffering from Intermittent Explosive Disorder. Good lord, man.

I don't even understand your point in the last paragraph.

I'm a gun guy. But this isn't going there.

I do carry pepper spray (for dogs) and would use it on an attacking human as a defensive weapon.
