Found this on my ride this morning.

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Found this on my ride this morning.

Well, I was pretty pleased to find the bike. The two matching water bottles were just icing on the cake!
@FLvector: I called the cops and waited for them to come pick it up.

Nice

Seriously though, was it a real gun or a toy?

Real. Smith & Wesson 9mm. I'm just glad I came across it and not some kid who might've mistaken it for a toy.

Eww, a Sigma. The owner must have missed the toss in to the trash can and it fell onto the road. I hope you kicked it into the ditch where it belongs and got an M&P.

Did you report it to the police (without touching it)?

If registered, they should be able to return it to the owner.

It could also have been dumped after a crime, and the police may want to see it.

If it isn't linked to a crime and the owner does not claim it/can not be found, you may be able to claim it yourself as the "Finder" after a period of time, if you left your information with the police at the time that they picked it up..

If registered they should go to the owner's house and "female dog"* slap him/her for losing it in the first place.

It could have been stolen. Would that necessarily be the owner's fault?

Now the police will have another throw-down weapon for the next time they shoot an unarmed person.

Yes. As a gun owner you are responsible for it from the day you buy it. Not in your direct control? Locked down so others can't take it and use it against honest people. As a long time gun owner I often see where people around me get the idea of having a gun to protect themselves. They then do so in "un-informed" or incomplete ways. Get yer gun, put in night stand and leave it there 24/7/365 where it is FAR more likely to be stolen by a thug rather than pointed at a thug by the legal gun owner. This is not an opinion of mine, this is the reality backed up by real world data. Far more handguns are stolen in unoccupied home burglaries than are reported used in home self defence. Now there is yet another a gun that is far more likely to be used for harming a honest person than help one.

Want to have a protection weapon in your house? Great. Learn to use and protect it properly and for Dogs sake lock the thing up in a true gun vault when you are not with it. As said is more likely to be taken by a crackhead than used to stop him and i don't want to deal with your armed crack head in my house.

Nice that you were kind enough to put your weapon in the picture so we could use it for scale in relation to the size of the bike.

Yep.... there are several security steps that would be wise to adhere to before buying a gun. But people aren't generally that pragmatic. Having a gun near by... makes them "feel safe"... and that is all they need.

How long before this thread gets locked, just because it involves a gun?

(Edit) finally "gun" is not censored.

And that is very unfortunate. It also takes some quality range time and hopefully some classes on safety.
