price check - 2008 caad9 5

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

price check - 2008 caad9 5

Interested to see what others think, saw a 2008 caad9 r5 in supposedly showroom condition and could be had for $700. Killer deal, decent, neutral, or too much?

If you have not checked the Blue Book, here it is:
2008 Cannondale CAAD9 5 - New and Used Bike Value

Based on this price, I would say that it is not a good deal. Of course, this is not taking into account any upgrades. The bike may come with pedals and or different wheels, computer and etc. Even then, it is hard to see this as being a good deal. Print out this blue book report and go look at the bike in person. You can always negotiate the price once you are there. There are some people who simply over value everything they own and there are others that will bend to reality. It is a nice bike and would be worth paying top retail value if it was truly in "showroom" condition.

I should have mentioned I did check the blue book, as I usually do, and $700 was the counter offer (the original posting has the bike and a kurt kinetic trainer for $800, but I have a trainer so don't want to pay for both, or go through the hassle of flipping the trainer on CL). As far as I can see, it's just a stock bike that apparently hasn't even been used in several years. Just didn't know if the CAAD9 is desirable enough to pay a little more for.

Bike does look like it's in perfect condition. Last of made in usa CAAD frames but essentially the same as CAAD10 frame. 2 generation old 105 5600 group. $700 is not crazy. I would like to get it for less but looking through your local CL there are many 10-15 year old Cannondales and similar bikes that people are asking $500-600 for so this bike at $700 might be good for your local market

I tend to agree with rms13 a lot on here. He is right. I looked around myself. Another selling point is something OP eluded to earlier. You can flip the KK. Even if you only get $100 for it, you net $600 on the bike. Ask $150 for the trainer and see what happens.

Yeah, I think most bikes (not just the cannondales, treks, and specializeds of the world) are generally overvalued around here, typically $100-200 more than I would value a lot of them. But that's the market. I ride and race a 20 year old bike (with a full 8 speed 105 groupset) and do quite fine with it, so my eventual choice will have to definitely be more than just an incremental improvement. Thanks guys!

I reckon $700 incl trainer is reasonable - neither cheap or expensive, but so-so.

cheers
