Thinking of these for my S5 but they may be to Fred?

Are these to Fred?

You're already on the S5. If you can't back it up with your riding then you've already gone too far so might as well go all the way

I do a lot of Club rides and the club bans center arm rests not sure how they would react to this? Clearly I would not use them when on a club ride.

CafeVelo 07-19-15 12:41 PM

You can't use them in the club, don't use them at all.

Most importantly, don't look like a triathlete.

rms13 07-19-15 01:30 PM

Clubs ban aero bars because of safety with group rides. These are drops that you run normal brifters on so I don't see how anyone could tell you you can't use them

GlennR 07-19-15 01:37 PM

Clubs can set any rules they like. If you don't like them, then don't join.

Aero bars are for TTs where you don't ride in groups. Being on the bars with people around you and on less then ideal roads can cause you to have control issues and take someone down with you.

It's totally different when you're on the road by yourself and have a clear view of the conditions and surface.

BTW... I assume a Cervelo S5 and not a Trek Emonda S5.

Yeah, might as well get those sleeveless jerseys if you're gonna go that route.

Those aren't really aero bars and they'd be safer than riding invisible aero bars which is common.

Not on ride by me... too many cars, hills and potholes.

Your supposed to ride around the potholes not through them :) You would only rest your arms on those bars when you're out front.

Well... there's only one guy out front and the rest follow. It's hard enough to ride around the bumps and potholes with standard drop bars in a pack of 10-20 riders.

Aero bars are fine if you ride solo... or maybe very small groups.

You just don't have the same control as with drop bars.

More like too poseur. Freds don't do aero.

Silvercivic27 07-19-15 05:16 PM

What?! Yeah they do! Clip on aero bars come even before clipLESS pedals!

Those are drop bars, they just have something out front to hang onto if you're riding with forearms on the tops.

69chevy 07-19-15 06:00 PM

There's a reason they are on clearance. If your reach/drop is set up properly, you won't be lower with your forearms on top than you will be in the drops. Is the purpose to ride narrower?

pdedes 07-19-15 06:48 PM

they're hideous

Well said.

I honestly can't fathom how an adult who goes to work everyday and buys his/her own cycling gear, would actually be influenced on what to buy/not to buy by people they don't even know. All that said...I wouldn't buy these simply because they are ugly as hell.

Bunyanderman 07-19-15 09:05 PM

If you do, I'll give $50 for the old bars haha.

k_kibbler 07-19-15 09:09 PM

I keep a minimum safe distance from anyone running aero bars on group rides. I'd keep the same minimum safe distance from anyone running these on group rides.

bt 07-19-15 09:13 PM

might as well order some disc brakes while your at it.

Kindaslow 07-19-15 09:16 PM

Am I the only person who saw this title and read SS....

TobinH 07-19-15 10:16 PM

Those look kind of clever. Not allowed in a race of course, but otherwise.

I do this if it is really windy and I'm pulling but it is kind of uncomfortable since my legs come all the way up to my chest in this position.
