Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If I didn't sell BH and wanted you to buy one of my bikes I'd probably say that too. I don't own one, but I know people that do. They like them. I know a few people that race on the G6.

To some people if it doesn't have one of the big company names going down the downtube it just isn't any good. I once had a bike shop employee tell me if I wanted to take cycling seriously I NEEDED to get a carbon bike

He said more R&D with the big 3. Said you get more for your money with giant trek and specialized. Also he said lighter is not better. ..his example was crashing and being able to pick up a non broken bike. IE strength of frame.

BS! And how would he know about that scenario re: BH? Worse than anecdotal. Made up anecdotal.

They are a reputable company. They have been around for 100 years making bikes. This is the bike op is asking about.

Secondary brand? They are reasonably well known and pretty reputable. More than I can say for a lot of so-called brands. I think it was stared by a family of brothers in Spain, the "H" stands for "hermanos" I forget what the B stands for.

I've seen some Euro pro teams riding them, so I figure they must be kinda good at least.

They don't have much presence in the USA, but that's no reason to avoid like the plague.

I don't own one, but I knew several people that do. I know a few guy's that race them. The G6 to be exact. I also know a few people that own the Ultralight. The bike will be fine. If you like it, go for it. If you would rather have a more common bike, that's fine too. Don't make a decision based on the fact that they are not as well known in the US. There are plenty bikes made in other countries that aren't as popular here. They are still great bikes.

I think they're not even a small company necessarily. They're just not big in the US. KHS & BikesDirect Motobecane is more of a secondary brand.

Never ridden one, but I've worked on them and they have a fine build to the frame.

BH sells great bikes. I've never met anyone with a BH who is unhappy with it.

Tour de France Team Bike round-up: All the road bikes in this year's race | road.cc

there you go...BH frames raced in TDF as recently as 2013. Does that make you feel better? All of these carbon frames with few exceptions are made in China or Taiwan. It's good stuff, you won't be disappointed. Quite frankly, frames are well made these days and you really won't be disappointed with quality. Even a KHS is not a bad frame, IMO.

Good post, but even without knowing it was a tour bike I would have no reservation buying a G6. That's a solid bike. I'm sure you have seen some at races.
