Clipless shoes move side to side

Hi,

Maybe this is the way clipless are supposed to be ...

I bought a pair of clipless shoes with the SPD interface. They look great and feel great. However, I noticed I can rotate/move the heel of both shoes quite a bit. This feel decidedly uncomfortable when I'm out of the saddle as it feels like I'm going to fall off.

Is this the way clipless shoes are designed (because you need to turn your heel in/out to unclip? Or did I not set them up correctly?

Thanks.

This is normal; that movement is called "float" and it keeps you from trashing your knees.

I believe the SPDs also come in a SL version that allows you to vary float by changing cleats, but I have no direct experience with them.

Keep riding; you'll get used to it...

Or take a look at different pedals. They all have different amounts of float.

or see if the pedals you have, have adjustable float
