Anybody bought a wheelset from Ribble or other suppliers from across the pond?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm curious about shipping issues, but more so about potential customs/duty charges. I bought some tires recently and they were shipped quickly and cheaply.

BTW, Ribble has Ultegra 6800 wheelsets for ~$262. Shipping is steep at ~$56 but even so, the price is unbeatable.

I got a set of Fulcrum Racing 3's for just under $400 shipped from PBK when they went on sale. I didn't get hit with any extra duty fees or charges at all. I read the info about duty charges and you "may" get hit with a 10% fee, but I didn't pay anything.

I bought a set of DT Swiss wheels from Chain Reaction that shipped parcel force and I didn't get charged any duties or fees when USPS delivered it.

I bought a set of 3T Accelero Team wheels from Merlin (along with a DI2 groupset) that shipped UPS and got a bill for $12.50 ($6.50 customs and $6 fee from UPS) about a week after delivery.

The only time I got really nailed was an order from Wiggle of jerseys and bibs that shipped DHL, they hit me for the highest duty rate of any individual item for the whole shipment (24% which came out to $125 or so, mostly customs fees. DHL's fee was like $7-8), and I had to pay before delivery. Kind of took away from the savings on that order and I wouldn't have had an issue paying the actual customs rates on each item but this is how DHL clears items quickly through customs. Still fighting with CBP on this one but not holding my breath on getting any money back even though the shipping paperwork had the tariff codes listed for each item.

Yeah, same. If you read up on duty's, you'll find websites that say you do & don't have to pay duty on bicycle parts. I had a frame shipped from England in March, after finding that I didn't have to pay. & it turned out to be true.
