Anyone have a Big O' Beer mid ride?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I would think anyone who drinks beer and rides bikes would answer yes to this.

I take offense to this comment...Portland Oregon is obviously THE craft beer capital of america!

Craft Brewing Defines Oregon as U.S. "Beer Capital"

On a more serious, and a less "My dad can beat up your dad" note, I can and do drink 1 pint mid-ride but anymore makes me want to phone a friend to pick me up rather than ride home. I think part of my issue is that I love Imperial IPA's that are higher in ABV's so my one is worth about 3.

The patio would be a poor choice, true dat.

It's easy for for me to say, since it's now legal here, but I'd choose a puff over a beer ten times out of ten, mid-ride. Beer mid-ride?! Bleah! I mean it'd taste good and all but taking on the caloric load for the stomach to process, getting relaxed then having to ramp back up.... meh. And I really, really like beer.

However, my rides might be different- I like hard climb routes.

Weed on the other hand is a fantastic mental stimulant on a bike, or so I've heard.

Ill take the the opportunity to pick the low-hanging "nanner-nanner" fruit here and caution against using ANY intoxicant while operating a bike.... unless in careful moderation. That's the law, and common sense. Sorry. Had to say it.

uhh...the article is from 2001. i do love that the article points out dick & nancy ponzi as trailblazers in the craft beer movement as they were trailblazers in getting
oregon wines on the map as well. i've always preferred the willamette valley pinot noirs vs the portland beers but as usual, more 'research' is required.

A man who only speaks from experience! Respect.

The Evil Weed goes with cycling like peanut butter and honey. Couple things to watch out for. It can greatly elevate your heart rate in the first 15-20 minutes so avoid jumping right into a brutal climb. BTDT; it can be a bit intense. Second, should you embark down this dark path of addiction and destruction of your life........ be on the lookout for better health, more and better sex, a heightened appreciation of all things beautiful, and so on. If you experience any of these symptoms, cease use IMMEDIATLY and return to your regular miserable life.

<big grin>

If it's really hot or if I'm doing a hard ride trying to hit certain goals, then I won't drink mid-ride.

But on a more casual ride?

I had a Coors Lite on a shorter ride recently. Not sure if that counts as beer.

Here's a newer article for ya ;-) If you haven't been to PDX for beer please take a visit. I enjoy San Diego but haven't spent much time in taphouses as of yet...

Cheers! Portland ranked Best Beer City in the World

Beer? During a ride? Are you serious?

OK, I'm in. (forgive me, it's a MTB pic in the road forum)

A brain dart is good for sure but I'm thinking enough beer for a buzz would bloat the stomach.

I can't say I'd want to ride behind or next to someone who'd just had 32oz of beer and hopped on a bike.

As posted on weekend ride report - breakfast this morning, after about 30 miles of more or less casual riding. Return home was only about 17 more miles, and mostly through the city.
No craft beer for me thanks. With a little steak and eggs, Kronenbourg is perfect.
