Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lemond Framesets OX or 853 which is best

I am new to road riding, I am a 15 year veteran of the woods. I have an OLD trek 56cm steel road bike now. I am looking to purchase a Lemond they fit me great. I have around $1200.00 or so to spend. I like the Croix de Fir but am unsure of the OX platium. Does anyone know how it compares to the old 853. Thanks, for your help.

Neither one is best. In blind test you could unlikely tell the difference.

They're both great tubesets. Lemond is probably using more OX because of exchange rates. I wouldn't sweat it.

I am selling a near-mint 57cm '02 Lemond Zurich (all steel, no carbon junk) for $1,000 (I paid $1,070 and just had a tuneup done).

I has full ultegra and bontrager race lite wheels. less than 100 miles on it (seriously).

PM me if interested. I love the bike, but it's slightly big for me (I have a 30" inseam).

It's Reynolds 853, the flagship of steel. O X Platinum is True Temper's answer to 853.

It's hard to believe Lemond switched to OX for performance reasons. Everything I've heard indicates OX Platinum and 853 are in the same range of quality, durability and performance. What does seem likely is that True Temper offerred Lemond a better deal.
