Different Size of chainrings.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Different Size of chainrings.

i regular have a 50/34 chain rings on my road bike.

Race Face Cadence Road Chainring Set 9/10s (53T/39T) - Mountain Equipment Co-op. Free Shipping Available

Would there be much of a problem if i went to a 53/39?
would that cause in problems with chain or gearing?
or performance issues on road biking? etc?

only reason for asking, is having hard time finding my original size

Different bolt circle diameter than your crankset. They won't fit.

A 36/52 will probably be as close as you can get to 39/53.

Nope. Specialites TA makes 110mm BCD small rings up to 46T, and big rings in one tooth increments to 56 plus a 61.

No, although if you sized your chain using the big+big method you'll need a new one so an accidental shift into big x big doesn't break your rear derailleur or its hanger. You should also need to raise the front derailleur.

Look harder. There are more 50/34 rings out there than you can count.

What is wrong with your old chainrings? Worn? How much? How many miles?

This is a 50/34 set.
Lasco Chainring Set Compact Road 110BCD Steel Silver 50 34T | eBay

They should be pretty easy to find. Shifting is supposed to be a little better if you buy matched pairs of chainrings, but assuming you have 110bcd chainrings, then there are a lot of options available. Search for "Compact" or "110bcd" "chainring set".

If you do jump to a 53T set, you'll probably need a new chain and will have to raise the front derailleur slightly. Not a big deal, but just expect a few adjustments.
