Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Buy '05 - how late?

Saving my pennies for a road bike. I read in another thread that new models arrive in the August/September time frame. Assuming what I want may have to be ordered, how long could one procrastinate and reasonably expect to take delivery? thx

I bought an 04 Trek 5000 in Oct/Nov of 04 and successfully demanded a discount (I think between $200-$300) because the new models were coming out. It took me three LBSs until one of them accepted my "offer" though.

At the same time, however, nobody would consider discounting a bike that had sold out. So, you've got to find a model that either (a) was over ordered or (b) didn't sell well.

I should have been more specific. Suppose I wanted to get that sweet looking '05 Lemond Sarthe. Had I better break out the credit card and get one while the gettin's good; or could I safely wait 'til say, July?

Probably a question best asked of the LBS... but where's the community in that?

LBS customer traffic susbsides when the weather turns cold. Last year I waited until November to shop for a new bike and I got a great deal.

Off-season cash flow is important to a small retail business, so they're motivated to make deals.
