Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How many spokes?

I weigh in right at 240 lbs. Of course, over the summer, I'll drop to about 220, but I'll still be a clydesdale (6'4"). I'm looking at new bikes and I've heard people talk about "the wheels seemed weak at 210lbs, so I went w/ 36 spokes". What's the real story? My current bike has 36 "standard" spokes (i.e. not the bladed kind, etc) and I don't have much trouble. Do the new bikes w/ fewer spokes have stronger ones? etc etc etc
