Day 5 of Rain

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ditto here. Stepped outside at 11:15 and only a faint drizzle. Got changed and was heading out for a quick lunch ride and it was raining a bit harder. Called of the ride.

expect a couple more days of off and on rain from the deep south to the mid atlantic thanks to a tropical disturbance in the gulf of mexico that is streaming moisture up.

was really hoping to get some good rides in preparation for my longest ride ever this coming saturday but i guess i'll just have to settle with being very, very rested.

Send it this way, we need it.

As a matter of fact, it's on it's way.

I'm going to get in a ride in a little bit while I still can. Now we have a freaking hurricane coming. Looks like the best case scenario is that I get 12-18 inches of rain. This weekend is a wash out.

Not sure what part of NC you're in, but it's our 10th straight day of high humidity & rain here in the East, and looks like it will 14 days at best by the time Joaquin rolls through. Not constant rain all 10 days but enough so that this weekend's rain and/or hurricane could do some serious downed tree damage with the ground so saturated.

Yeah I'm here in Scotland county. Got a ride in yesterday during a dry spell, and it looks okay now until this afternoon. Then a flood advisory from tonight till Sunday. Every time I look at the weather channel it gets worse. Now they say it could be a "historic event" for the Carolinas. Don't want to hear that haha

I lost count of how many days it has been, but this sucks. Not much chance to be dry until maybe tues/wed. Our ground is so saturated, this storm could make things interesting...not in a good way...

Well...look on the bright side...

A few years ago, during winter a monumental snow storm was forecast for the Great Plains...the Weather Channel sent out Jim Cantore and a TV crew and they camped out in front of Lincoln's Memorial Stadium the day of to broadcast live...Made a huge deal about it on TWC...they were freezing their butts off out there, and in the end scarcely a single flake of snow fell.

Not saying you'll be that lucky...but it could happen for you too.

Oh man I didn't even think about that. That's bad...

I was supposed to ride to work 4 days this week. Rode Monday, got drenched on the way home. Shoes were still too wet Tuesday morning to commute and it's been downhill since there...

Im jonesing bad. Monday was my first ride since riding to the beach two weekends ago. I need more bike time...

I was able to ride on Monday Morning between waves of rain.

And most of the Carolinas is in some type of drought. We may not be after Monday.

And for the people in the NE that are asking for rain. Be careful what you ask for. (CA is an entirely different situation with their drought.)

The local chapter of the MS Society just cancelled its 7,000+ rider event set for this weekend in neighboring NJ because Gov. Christie declared a state of emergency in anticipation of flooding from the effects of impending storm. At least he's now getting some media attention.

Wonder if he'll shut down the bridges again in case of high winds.
