Which helmet will be your next?
 

Am looking for a new helmet at the sale right now and considering Giro Aeon
Wiggle | Giro Aeon Road Helmet | Road Helmets
Its importen for me that its cools down my head nicely( i sveat a lot on the head)
Its also look great in neon/yellow.
Somebody on this forum useing it? And If are you happy with it?
Am sure there are more people out there looking for a new helmet, and which one will you pick up on sale?

Aeon is an old model, but it was Giro's top of the line for a while and it's crazy light. You can probably find one on sale somewhere in the US if you try hard enough, not sure about Norway.

I like the new Giro Synthe MIPS helmet, but $275... good grief. They seem to be unloading the slightly older, non-MIPS version now for close to $100 if you can find them.

I'm liking the look of Kask helmets, but considering my Specialized "whatever" is only two months new, it'll be a while... unless I wreck.

Something that has mesh over the vents. I've had one wasp too many.

I hear the Bell V-1 Pro is poised to make a comeback.

I'm due for a replacement and will go with the Giro Synthe as soon as my LBS has a sale.

I had a crash using my Bell Influx a couple of years ago. I hit my head hard. I have had many head injuries and now get concussions very easily, almost routinely. Two things impressed me about this crash. My chinstrap was loose (and almost took off my opposing ear, plus knocking my glasses off and cutting me around my eye) and I had no concussion whatsoever. Two weeks later I read about MIPS, the foam that slips like my helmet did. I was sold. It took about 9 months before I found a helmet that worked for me and was a color I was willing to wear but as soon as I did, I bought it. The POC Trabec. Not cheap. ($240 as I recall.) Not light. (300+ grams.) Very comfortable. So much so I don't notice the weight. Very well made and thought out. (Except the straps slip in the buckles. I took a speedy stitcher and secured each one with a stitch; I have been dong that for years with the Bells.)

If I were to buy a pre-MIPS helmet for $100 I would spend the next few years hoping not to crash before I retire it. Yeah, the hope to not crash is always there, but I feel I am jinxing myself if I take actions consciously to up the risk.

And that $140 you would be wasting if you don't crash? $140 to keep Murphy at bay could be viewed as $140 very well spent.

If you have hair, consider a skull cap. With hair, the stingers can't reach you, plus you will have the benefits of a much cleaner (and easy to keep clean) helmet. I have about a half dozen of the Pace skull caps and use a clean one every ride. (I saw "with hair" because without, the cap would be sitting directly on your head and that stinger could reach.)

I'm on my second Lazer Genesis. My next helmet will be my third Lazer Genesis. Unless it is discontinued by then.

In between I got an Aeon. I hated the fit. Giro helmets---they either fit your head shape, or they don't. My head, they don't. It's a great helmet, otherwise. Especially now if you can score one on close-out. :thumb:

I'll go for the Balista assuming it fits well. If it doesn't then I'll pick whichever fits well. The current Specialized helmet (no idea on the model $60 one) does the trick.

I just bought that helmet at Performance two weeks ago. $249 list, on sale for $199. Got another 20% at checkout. Had to return it because I picked the wrong size. Went to the store for the return and the cashier offered another 10% off if I gave $1 to Tour de Cure.

Catlike was just too radical looking but people say they are well vented. The style isn't for me.

Kask sure looks pretty but too many reviewers complained that their glassed didn't fit, had to change to different glasses, fiddle with glasses. Several reviewers complained that it was tedious to adjust as well. I'm not paying >$200 to have to put up with such "minor nuisances" so Kask was not a choice for me.

I tried on the Giro Ionos. It is an older model and has a lot of volume - it is a big helmet and looked a little funny on my head. The Aeon is a smaller helmet and I like the fact that it is available in colors other than garish screaming neon and flat black. I chose the white because it isn't the neon fashion color du jour but is still highly visible.

The Aeon is also very light - noticeably lighter than other helmets I tried. The straps are lighter/thinner than the Ionos and Catlike. The Ionos came with what looked like an winter liner. The Aeon did not.

I just bought the Kask Mojito helmet, and I really like it. It is not as massive looking on the head, like some helmets, is light weight, and I have had no problems with adjustments, or with my glasses. It was expensive, (around $155.00 for white) but seems to me worth it. Hopefully, unless I crash, I will not need another helmet.

I'm digging the POC Octa AVIP

I was in a specialized store a while back and they make some decent looking (what's up with that front scoop?) helmets for a lot of money but they had one feature I'd really like in my next helmet - the white, reflective color.

I think if I could find a white, retro-reflective helmet with MIPS for under $300 I'd buy it without thinking twice. Has to fit though, and as other have mentioned, you either have a Bell/Kask/Rudy/Lazer/POC head or a Giro/Specialized head. I'm not sure where the other brands fit in.

I'm going with a classic.

I'm currently using the Aeon and do like it. You should be able to find it online, but you might have trouble finding the exact color you're looking for if it has indeed been discontinued.

I got it to keep sweat out of my glasses. I never thought about it stopping a wasp sting. I do have hair, just not much of it, but maybe enough to keep a stinger away.

I have an Aeon and love it! Honestly can't imagine a helmet being better.

I'll probably get another Catlike; they fit my big head very well and they have lots of venting which is important here in Alabama.

The problem I had with the Aeon is the thin strap material keeps slipping. I have to adjust it to tighten every third ride or do. Not a big deal but I'm used to adjusting a strip send it stays that way a long time.
