wheel advice
I was planning on saving up for wheels over the winter but I found a local seller with Aksium Elites for $240. Did some research and they seem to be one of the better entry level wheelsets.
I have Shimano RS010's now which are fine but I'm just into matching my gear so i like the Mavics. Question is, will these be noticeably better than my RS10's? I was hoping to get maybe Ultegra (or similar level) wheels next season if not. If it helps, my cycling usually involves more climbing than flats. Thanks! |
They are not an upgrade and you could get them new for $177
Mavic Aksium Elite WTS Road Wheelset 2015 | Factory Road Wheels | Merlin Cycles How much research have you done? How would the Mavics match your bike better than Shimano? |

Is the rest of your gear prone to early failures and supported by a company the doesn't give a ratz butt about customer service..? |

I wondered this as well.

For $325 you could get some Boyd 30mm Rouleurs at 1527 grams. Great wheels and better than the Mavic's.
|
You could also wait for 20% at Nashbar and get Vuelta Corsa Lite or SLR

Thanks guys! my buddy said the same. as for the gear match, it's not really gear perse but my kit. I have a some mavic cycling clothes that i really like as they are comfortable.
I'm in Canada so that's why I thought $240 was a good price (we don't really get anything cheap here). I believe the wheels are $500 new. Anyway, I will continue saving up and see if I can find the wheels you all recommended at an LBS on sale. |
Is there a LBS around you with a decent wheelbuilder? Bdop's build kit ships to CAN inexpensively.

At 215 pounds are these Boyd's in the realm a wheel I can ride?? I have a 2014 Giant TCR SL1 aluminum frame. I'm having problems with my rear wheel! Been looking for replacement also. Would like to stay in that 1500 gram range.

Correct. Worldwide shipping is included in the price. VERY inexpensively, eh? I think shipping to CAN is typically quite a bit more (than it is to the US) at the UK outlets and/or places like bikehubstore or Nashbar (for Vuelta's). That's why I'd specifically recommend bdop in this instance if the OP has a decent local builder.

I just bought a Ridley Fenix Force 22 that came with the Mavic Aksiums. I had a pair of Vuelta Corsa Lites from my previous bike and switched them out. The Vueltas roll better and seem to climb a little better than the Aksiums. The Vuelta Corsa Lites are 1570 grams.
