Oakley Lenses?
I have a pair of Oakley Flak Jackets that fit me perfectly. I have a round noggin and it's hard to find sunglasses I really like. The lenses are scratched and Oakley is giving me 25% off any lenses I want. I live in the southeastern US (Georgia). Moderately warm, sunny climate. I ride mostly afternoons and early evenings. So full sun to dusk. My current lenses are the Polarized Black Iridium. They work pretty good. Can be a little dark at times. I can't wear amber or yellow lenses. They always give me migranes. I prefer a gray based lense. Should I stick with Polarized Black Iridium or are the Road Prizm lenses worth all the hype? Any other cycling specific lenses that you really like?

Road Prizm are pretty nice.
I have just about every Oakley lens available, and use Road Prizm most of the time when cycling. They aren't the darkest tint available, but I find them to be dark enough(even in sunny AZ). |
Are they a gray base color? It's hard to tell from the website.

I've had the gold iridium lenses for a awhile. I really like them, but I can't really compare to others. Do you have an oakley outlet store anywhere close by? They keep a wall of every lens which is obviously best to see them first hand and find what looks best to you.

The closest one is about 45 minutes away. I might just drive there and forego the 25% off. It's only $20 or so savings.

I have the Transitions lenses on my Jawbones. So far they have been the most versatile lens I have. I can use them day and night. Only thing is that they may not be dark enough for really bright days. I've got another pair with the black iridium for those days. I'm curious about the Prizm lens though. I'd like to try the mountain ones.

I also have transition lenses for a pair of jawbones and agree. Also great for cloudy days and at dusk.

I really dig my Oakleys. I'm waiting for a good deal/discount and then I'm buying a bunch of lenses for some Oakleys that I have with lenses that have seen better days. I really need a couple for my Radars and would like to get the Prizm roads and the amber for trail riding...maybe even clear. I just need something for night riding single track during the winter.
The Prizm Road lenses that I have on my Jawbreakers are great. I would really recommend them for anybody looking for a good lens to use on the road bike. |
I like the Prizm lense and I come from polarized blue and orange. It's not as dark as the polarized but good enough for GA sun and u can see better in the shade

I have the road prizm also. Not sure where someone got gray from, they are pink. Really brightens up the road. My eyes have little tolerance for the sun, they will tear up and involuntarily squint and I have no issues in sunny Fla. with them.
However, they fog up within 30 min and get caked with sweat which I find super annoying. |

Wel, scratch that plan. It looks like tye Oakley store 45 minutes from me is shut down. I guess I'll have to wing it. The Prizm lenses scare me a little because of reading that they never get dark enough for full sunlight, and won't remain dark while driving in a car. I'm of Dutch/Irish heritage, so I have lightish green eyes. My eyes don't tolerate full sun very well. My theory is that's why amber/yellow lenses never work for me. So, I'm down to Road Prizm, VR28 and Black Iridium Polarized. Can't make up my mind.

I'm a green-eyed ginger living in extremely sunny AZ, and road Prizm lenses are dark enough for me. They are darker than VR28, but more neutral tinted. I used Black Iridium polarized for years, but now prefer Road Prizm for cycling. |

Prizm lenses don't darken, transition lenses do that.

I dont find them gray, but I find them to highlight contrasts excellently. Like I mentioned above, my eyes literally melt down in the sun. If i go to the beach, I am blind without my glasses. I was a lifeguard when younger and I was blind on the stand w/o glasses. I have since moved to Fla and drive, ride, and go to the beach with my Flak Prizms and find them to clarify what i see, 0 brightness issues. I bought the prizms to replace black iridium. The blacks for me were only useful on the sunniest of days while driving and found them to impair my vision otherwise. I find myself wearing the road prisms while driving in thunderstorms because the contrasting and highlighting they do actually lets me see better with them than without.
|
Also, never thought of this until now. My snow goggles are pink too. They have the same effect. I had amber ones and found they caused my eyes to strain and now just stick with pink/rose because of the excellent clarity. And here's no sunnier place than a snow covered mountain.

Do you find the vision more gray or do you notice the rose tint? If it is more of a gray base, I will order those.

Just orded radar ev pitch / black irdium on sale. What is the diffrens between Pitch and Path and Road modells? It was only the pitch modell on sale (115$) so i bought that one
http://www.oakley.com/en/radar-ev-pi...oduct/W0OO9211 hope there ok for cycling? Its my first oakleys. |
Road Prizm lenses have a very similar tint to the OO+ Red Iridium polarized lens(which was also designed to work well for cycling).

Oakley Polarized Radar EV Pitch in POLISHED BLACK / BLACK IRIDIUM POLARIZED | Oakley hope there ok for cycling? Its my first oakleys. Honestly, the Path lens is marketed as the cycling shape, but the Pitch lens gives better coverage. I think you'll be happy with the Pitch shape, unless you have a very small face. |
Just get grey. They lack an iridium coating so they are hardier, they are cheap, and they work great. I own Oakley polarized, prizm, laser, G26, etc....grey is the best.
