The jazz.

You can probably grab a beach cruiser or the like at one or more ports of call.

We did that on the last cruise. We had a fun time. If we can do it again, we probably will.

+1! Actually I'd like to hit a LOT more of the Caribbean. So far I've only hit Jamaica, Caymen Islands and a buncha the Florida Keys.

Oooh-la-la. Fat road tires on the deep dishes. Tres chic!

One day I'm gonna splurge on a pair of the 26x2.3" version of those tires.

I'm looking forward to it. I've heard nothing but good things about Compass... I'll probably never go back to a skinny tire if they're as plush and bouncy as I've heard...

I'd be much happier if Clement made a 26x2"-2.3" version of the 120tpi Strada LGG for $35 or so, but I don't think Clement cares about 26ers at all.

Otherwise, if they are cheap-assed machine built wheels, and nobody ever worked them over to balance the tensions and relieve the bends, might not be worth paying someone else to rebuild.

OTOH, they might make an excellent learning project for you. If you are gonna continue racing, and continue being poor, and are not quite good enough yet for a sponsorship, you need to learn as much as you can about tension spoked wheels, their care, construction, and feeding. Going faster on a budget was what got a lot of us into wheels in the first place. it did me, anyway. :)

That seems like good advice, I appreciate it. If I do continue racing I should definitely have a better understanding of my bike. But thinking that far into the future only skews your vision of reality.

I'll drop the wheel off and see what they have to say about them after they get them in person.

Is everyone excited about the new 47mm threaded bottom brackets???

I agree. Of all the possibilities for why that nipple is breaking, the spoke being too short is the most likely. I'm still trying to figure out how he knows it's the same spoke as before. I wouldn't be able to remember the location for more than about 10 minutes unless it was adjacent to the valve hole or seam.

Don't hesitate to offer some thoughts to the shop about what may be wrong. Sometimes those guys can use a little help. Not always...but sometimes.

Haiti, Dragon Coaster

Beware "hand-shakers" at Dunn's River Falls.

I do have some sweet bikini (not me) pictures from there, though.

Costa Rica is great. I'd go back there if I got a chance.

Yeah that map makes it really conspicuous that they're avoiding Cuba. That will soon change.

Yup, Cuba is going to be raking it in once they open those floodgates, so many people have never visited there. I can't wait, myself.

On the day I was in Nassau in Sept, there were five (5) cruise ships in the port at the same time. With each ship holding at least 3,000 people, that's 15,000 people walking around spending money in the town. Can you say ka-ching!?

Three Carnival ships, one Norwegian, and one Royal Caribbean.

They got 'em. My wife did a bike session on our last cruise. I passed, played basketball while she was doing that.

There was a time in my young days when I was well on my way to hitting ever caribbean destination down there. Then home owning and child rearing gets in the way and scuttles that ship.

I had a set of "hand built" wheels that I kept breaking nipples on. I also would get mystery flats, and when I traced it on the tube, there was never anything in the tire or rim. Come to find out, the spoke tension wasn't high enough. The mystery flats were cause by the spoke/nipple popping the Velo Plug out enough to bite the tube. I was proud of my diagnosis, and the repair was increased spoke tension and brass. I just retired those Fusions at well over 20K, and built up the BHS 31W with CX-Rays, around the AC Hubs.

Love those AC hubs.
