I'm not a weight weenie myself, but when you start shaving here and there it starts getting hard. The compact is the last place to look though.

Part of the weight reduction of a compact over a regular double is a smaller cassette and less chain needed. (50 grams right there)

The wheels can only start to get so light as well.

I agree completely, it's definetly a start to reach your weight goal.

Well my TruVativ Touro triple lists well over 800 grams...most of the compacts I've seen are in the low 500's. I'm sure a better BB would also help lose 50-75 grams as well. The "advantage" is the weight loss and better components. I still want the gear range down low for the long mountain passes that I will be doing later this summer.

At 5'11" 149 lbs, every 1/2 pound makes a noticable difference to me.

*I was wrong about my triple it is a 52/42/30 and a 12-25 9 spd cassette*
