What bikes came with Sram Rival?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What bikes came with Sram Rival?

I'm thinking of getting a 2nd bike for foul/colder weather. Something I can put 28mm tires on, not care so much about it being dirty and abused. And i'm thinking used since i don't want to spend much.

I ride Sram Red and want something with Rival or maybe Apex if that's all I can find. I assume since i'm looking at sub $1000 it will be a alloy frame and i'd like a carbon fork.

What bikes were sold with Sram, say 2010-2014?

So far, all i've found in that price range is Shimano Sora and Claris and I really dislike the Shimano shifters.

Cannondale CAAD 10 4 were Rival , in 2012, (and 2011, I believe, not sure about 2013-2015.) It is still offered, in a disc brake version, for 2016. I've seen plenty of the Rival group sets on ebay, recently. Many are moving to the Rival 22, and selling their old groups. I have been using the Rival on my CAAD 10 since I purchased it, January 2012, without any issues at all. Not the smoothest of the groups, but it is very reliable, and easy to set up, for me. CAAD 10 tend to hold their value so bargains have to be sought out, patiently.

At your price level stated, you can rule out Red and Force, Apex and Rival are available around that price, on various bikes I have seen on ebay. You might want to look at finding a frame, and then getting either a used groupset, or individual SRAM components to build up what you are looking for.

You might be able to find 10-speed Force in that price range.

If you decide to build up a bike, let me know. I have some Sram parts - Apex shifters, Force and Rival FDs, Rival and Apex RDs, and Force brakes - that I could part with.

Specialized had a Roubaix Rival in 2014. It has a carbon frame however.

I bought one these for me and one for the girlfriend from REI:

Novara Verita Bike - 2014 - REI.com

They had them on closeout for $518. You might call around to a couple REI's and see if they can track you one down. There was one left at the Southlake REI last time I checked. Steel frame and fork, Apex, long reach brakes, fenders, Schwalbe Marathons. I've got 32's on mine right now and turned it into my touring bike:

A second looked in the back and they had a brand new 2013 Trek Madone 2.1 with 105 10 speed for $900 (original retail was $1400). I told the salesman that putting Sram Rival shifters and derailleurs on would put it past my budget. He said, "maybe we can take off the 105 shifters and derailleurs and give you a credit".

I will continue looking for a used cheaper bike, but i'm sure that bike will still be there in the Spring and I might be able to negotiate a better price.

I can get new Rival 10 shifters, front and rear derailleurs for $240.

It seems like more bikes came with Rival 3-4 years ago compared with current offerings - so that bodes well for your search.

What size are you?

thanks... i'm a 56 and those are both 58, but the Ridley is nice.

The Madone 2.1 is the same as the new one locally but it has 105.

My bike before the Madone 4.6 was a 2012 Trek 2.1 with SRAM Apex. Like you, I had Rival on the Madone 4.6 and really there was no difference in the quality of shifting. The 2.1 is what got me hooked on SRAM.

Also on my 2011 Roubaix, and perhaps Tarmac same years? Love it.

Look at the end of the year closeouts at Nashbar, none are SRAM, but Ultegra below $900 is pretty amazing. Aluminum frame and carbon fork with a Ultegra groupset. If its SRAM only, my apologies.
