Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Been admiring everyone's bikes on this thread for a while. Here's mine. 2014 KHS Flite 747, size 68. She'll never win any beauty contests, but I love her. Described by a riding companion as "not beautiful in the traditional sense, but beautiful in its design and engineering for purpose," (extraordinarily big and tall riders). I tend to agree. She certainly gets plenty of attention and questions on the road and in the shop. And without her, I never would have been able to fall in love with this exquisite sport for which I am singularly ill-suited.

Oh my, is she wearing 700c, 650b or 26" wheels?

Happy rides.

You're not the first to say it, and you won't be the last. Nor do I disagree. Options are limited for the 6'10" rider, unless you go full custom, which I wasn't going to do with my first bike. Ugly as she is, I love her. And let's face it, nothing built for me is ever going to be truly pleasing to the eye in terms of traditional cycling aesthetics.

No offense taken. I know what it looks like, and I know what I look like on it (a lycra-clad escaped rhinoceros aboard an oddly proportioned trellis of steel toothpicks). Self confidence is key to being a Shaq-sized cyclist.

I think it looks cool, purpose-built for a tall rider and properly proportioned.

As for rhinos on trellises, that's a more substantial image than what I, at 6' and a barrel-chested 225lbs, look like aboard my minivelo, which is a bear on a circus bike!

Oh, and since this is the Modern Steel Road Bike Appreciation Thread, and my mini is steel, I guess I can post it:

Thank you, sir. I've been told the bikes looks odd, wonky, and impossibly enormous standing by itself, then entirely proportionate and appropriate when my massiveness is draped over it. But when riding, the thing other cyclists tend to notice most (other than how much higher off the ground I am) is actually the 210mm cranks--people say the circles I turn are just huge and really something to see. Obviously they seem normal to me.

I've also been told my slipstream is utterly exquisite...

My sentiment EXACTLY!

It's kinda fun to ride, too; a piece of junk, honestly, but fun for shooting around town on, casual stuff like that.

Hahaha! I bet! Sounds like I could get a good draft off you, this from someone who often feels drafting most people is like trying to hide behind a grain of rice!

this is a Lennard Zinn designed bike for KHS
, for large people -------------- he designs frames like no other for the tall people, very nicely laid out. probably one of the better designed bikes for the intended purpose than others for the masses. a friend of mine rides one at 66cm, he loves his as well. flex in only the right places.

I am very excited to report, my custom Bianchi build is nearing completion. Its eye candy I tell you!
Old school-ish Tipo Corsa frameset (the tubeset consists of Bianchi Engineered Chromo-Lite Double Butted, Heat Treated Tubing), and my selection of parts (Veloce group & Potenza brakes). Record hubs, Open Pro CD rims & DT double butted spokes. Deda seatpost & stem, plus Fizik bars.
As this pic shows its just short of completion, but picture the celeste tape, Ti Speedplay pedals and of course proper seat height & stack on the stem. I'm 5'10" so the seatpost wont be near that high.
My kid is building his Masi up, but it will be a week or so behind my bike.
Its a winner in my book! Merry Christmas!

I didn't realized Tipo Corsa doesn't have a level top-tube, quite odd for a lugged frame. Does it use a 1 inch threadless headset? are the options limited?

I thought the Tipo Corsa had more of a level top tube also. This bike is not in my possession yet, so I have yet to go over it.

And yes the 1" headset was very hard to come by. It has a FSA cartridge headset in it now. I'll get more details on it...
But what about the rest of it?

It probably does have a level top tube. If you're benchmarking off the wall seam, that the bike is not parallel to the wall explains the apparent incongruity.

I'm glad you're building that up. I have plans to put a white saddle, bar tape, and hoods on a frame that has a similar cream color.
