Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Workswell wheelsets

I see a few people here have purchased framesets from Workswell, by only know of one person that made a wheelset.

If you've purchased wheelsets from Workswell, are you happy with the product/build quality?

I bought a set of Chinese CF wheels with Novatec hubs from a seller on eBay. I'm still building the bike, so I haven't ridden them yet but in hand quality was exceptional and I would confidently recommend the seller. They went above and beyond before and after the sale. Let me know if you want more information on mine, though not Workswell I thought I'd reply.

He bought different wheels off of Amazon, but his frameset from WW.

Workswell has fantastic prices, I'm just interested in the quality of their hoops, and build quality.

Thank you.

WW has a pretty good reputation. I haven't heard one bad thing about Workswell yet. I think we are all aware of the risks of buying generic China stuff, but it sounds like Workswell is trying to change that.

Yep, I actually bought these

CARBON FIBER Wheels :: Road Wheelset :: 23MM Ultra Light Clincher Wheels :: 700c 1390g Ultra Light 38mm Clincher Road Carbon Wheels Bicycle Wheelset for Shimano/Campy -

Build quality was good out of the box. I have put about 1000 miles on them. They are still true, brake surface hasn't separated or anything like that, they have not assploded, I've descended at 40+ mph on them and so far so good

Why do you say that? I had about 10 emails back and forth before I bought my frame and that seems to be the same experience as other customers. They were very responsive.

Yes. The Chinese New Year is likely the culprit. It is an extended holiday and could easily be responsible for their inattention.

I've emailed, Skyped and called with no luck so they must be shut down for Chinese new year already. They have the frame I want so I'll just wait till I get a reply.

Those look like mine, at least the warning sticker in exactly the same on mine.

I emailed Workswell looking for looking for a frameset in sizes bigger than they had listed and received a reply in less than a day, it was there the next time I checked email. In fact, I've been nothing but happy with all the China merchants I've dealt with, have been disappointed with some Chinese products but never had any issue with the seller.

Holy crap, at that price who cares if they don't last 10k miles (not saying they won't)

I'm not going down a mountain on carbon wheels though, just not doing it. Any reason you couldn't convert those wheels to tubeless?

those hoops aren't designed for it.

FWIW, Workswell quoted a better price for their 25mm wide version of that wheelset(built with CX-Ray spokes, and the same hubs).

My job is a huge corporate customer of HP and HP sent us an email telling us not to expect any orders getting fulfilled until after 2/13 because of Chinese Lunar New Year. So if HP's factories are shut down I'm sure smaller businesses are.

Didn't someone here purchase a custom painted frame from WW and have an issue with it chipping? I'm curious how that situation was resolved.

Everything is shut down. It is a really big deal.

Yes, and someone on the forum whose name shall not be mentioned catering to those with pondaphobia (from the Latin "pondus" for weight) was complaining recently that Workswell painted over the integral carbon fork crown race on his frame. Now that could be a sticky wicket.

I think if I was wanting a custom painted Chinese frame I'd get the frame raw and get it painted somewhere local.

I agree, but not for $50. And to what purpose. It just adds weight. I like the Henry Ford approach: "any color as long as it's black".

Interesting - where did you see that? Or did you email them.

And what does the design have to do with it? It doesn't seem like the fluid is particularly hazardous. Plug the spoke holes and let 'er rip. Not sure what to do about a valve on a deepish carbon wheel though.

Rims intended specifically for tubeless have different bead hook design for tire security and a shorter sidewall to save weight. Just taping over the holes in a standard clincher rim is not as successful as using the tubeless-specific rim.
